Re: 1988 10 Meter-mid cabin, Need new propellers!

Interesting. When I went to four blades on mine, I also changed to 17x14 with a “light cup”, no # associated. If I still had the 454’s, I might be tweaking mine too depending on what you come back with. I’m still tabs all the way down, full time. I bring them up when I’m backing into a slip otherwis...

Re: 1986 10m express cruiser fresh water system

Hi, I replied on FB. I can help if it’s a mid cabin.

Re: 89 mid cabin fuel starve

I didn't think the floats were cork but didn't look that closely because that's not why mine failed. They're probably end of life anyway given the age so it might be worth doing them regardless AND you'll get a good look into the tank at the same time. You have to drill a hole in the deck and instal...

Re: 89 mid cabin fuel starve

I went through this when I first bought my boat (14 years ago). 3-4 filter changes and clogged anti siphon valves until the old gas/ethanol worked its way through. This was before I installed Racor filters and was just using the factory canister filter and carb inlet end. I'm in the minority and act...

Re: 89 mid cabin fuel starve

I would say that's unlikely. I replaced both of the senders (one failed) at the same time and the floats themselves were physically ok. Be careful running without anti-siphon valves (for obvious reasons).

Re: 89 mid cabin paralleling solenoid

My understanding is that the paralleling solenoid is only engaged for starting.

Re: 89 mid cabin water level gauge

It's a company called SCAD (scadtech.com). It looks like the model I have has been discontinued but they have replacement. "Tank monitor"

Re: 89 mid cabin water level gauge

I went with an externally mounted one (sensors stick on the side of the tank) about 5 years ago and it's been great. It's close enough, probably within an 1/8 of a tank accuracy. I was able to reach in (towards the stern) through the bilge/front of the head to mount the sensors (top and bottom) and ...

Re: Riser condition inspection

wow, that's awesome work.... I've never seen a cutaway like that. I've been doing a fresh water flush for a long time, over ten years across two sets of risers/elbows. If I'm boating back to back days, I might not do it but longer than that I will every time. On the last set at five years, they look...

Re: Fiberglass Thru Hall Repair

agreed, I wouldn't fill the hole only to re-drill it larger. That's a lot of work. I would use a piece of thin piece of plywood and screw it on the inside of the boat and use that to redrill new hole.

Re: Trim tabs or ZipWakes?

The problem with the mid cabin is it’s tabs down all the time (including my larger drop fin units). I never “trim out”… like you do on other boats. I have inclinometer mounted at the helm and it’s right where the factory specifies. If the zip wakes could reduce this scenario/less drag that would be ...

Re: 1988 10M-mid cabin battery sizes

Scott, Sorry, I never saw your reply above about the cover. Yes, the strips of plywood under the factory cover are positioned so that they go across the middle (roughly) of the battery tops and avoid the terminals. I added a piece of foam because I'm kneeling on that every time I use the boat when I...

Re: 89 mid cabin reimagined

Could you do a video walk through and maybe post on youtube? I need to do an update on mine once I'm in the water and cleaned up. I've done a million upgrades on mine but no real layout changes like you have which got me thinking again.

Re: 1988 10M-mid cabin battery sizes

On the "crushing" comment. I added plywood strips running front to back (epoxied and screwed to the factory cover). I positioned them so they squarely line up on the tops of the batteries and avoid crushing the cables.

Re: 1988 10M-mid cabin battery sizes

I thought about an inverter/charger which would cover the entire boat. But, when I really thought about what we would be using the inverter for, it was all stuff in the galley so a home run to a dedicated outlet from the inverter was easy. Separately, I tied in the microwave at the panel so I can sw...
