5.7 GM repower in '77 F30

'89 model mercruisers and trans removed. Considering new Crusaders - carburetor Classic Series since HP would be higher (315hp) looking at new 1:1 72C trans and staying with the same props - Supercup 976 14x11, we just like a slow cruise, but power if weather requires. I know the F30 setup limits pr...

Also heard the vortec runs cooler. Roller cam is good advantage - I'll make sure that's in the package. Didn't know about the bellhousing - thought the only bolt up difference was at the intake manifold to the vortec heads. Preference is to the Q-jets, but if intakes are changed out for vortec, I'll...

5.7L GM Vortec Advantage?

Repowering our '77 F30 running 1989 non Vortec 5.7L GM that were purchase used and installed about 12 years ago - not rebuildable. Considering new longblocks - Qjet carbs rebuilt and new distributors, new flexplate, existing fresh water cooling system, starters, alternators, etc. rebuild BW 1:1 tran...

'77 F30 tiller arms

tiller arms are flaking heavy rust - if these are cast, seems the integrity is compromised. these are located under the support board and the top bearing is fastened above to the board. Don't want to disassemble until I have new ones in hand. Can anyone help with where to get them - or get a machine...

Good point alexander38 - one consideration not mentioned is the MIEs were raw water cooled and my used replacements are fresh water. Never had any overheating problems with the 3 into 4. Wyes need replacing and I will add 45deg ells at the inboard side of both motors to clean things up. My 3inch hos...

Had the original props 14x11 Supercup 976 refurbished when the GMs were installed - WOT reached what was expected. Considering new GM longblocks (non vortec) and running the Q-jets after rebuild, also new electronic distributors. What advantage would Vortec 5.7s provide? Have not ruled out fuel inje...

She's a 1977 I've owned about twenty years. Original MIE 233s were replaced with used 1989 GM mercruisers about nine years ago. Considering new longblocks, non vortec, so all my accessories will bolt up, most of which are in good condition.
And thanks guys for your prompt replies.
