Cummins 6CTA 450 or QSC would be the ticket. Its a heavy planning hull. heavy iron is called for. I had looked at that engine 450 and the guy at Cummins said not a good choice for the 44 because of the water line and weight putting it right at the not recommend length ... and plus I don`t like the ...

They ddid not make many, But there are some out there. While they still can be a good market for them I wonder how bad this will be after sitting for a year under?

Any boat can be saved throw enough cash at it. Salt or fresh water? how long has it been down? Likely looking at a repower unless it's a short time and you get the engine pickled. Well this has been going on for 6 years. I have to wonder if your engines have been tired that long. And that's a good possibility. So I have a lot of questions. Your boat is a 75 and you have 86 engines. Were the replacements complete or long blocks or?? Are the Transmissions 1.5 to 1 ? most had 1....

How is the bottom? how did run after the last haul out with fresh paint? Have you ever sent the props to the prop shop and had them scanned? With that said your engines could very well be tired.
