Removing velvet drive with boat in water
I'm planning to remove the starboard side velvet drive Mod 10-17-008 transmission for a rebuild this weekend and I have a few questions I hope to get answered first. The boat is a 1981 36' Tri-cabin powered by 350ci Crusader marine engines. I would like to do the work with the boat in the water but ...

Re: replacing tub faucet on 1981 tri-cabin
Thanks for the info. I was hoping the access would be higher up like from the main salon rather than the engine compartment since I'm an overweight 69 yr old guy not sure if I could crawl back in there behind the engine and make it out again. I'm also considering the possibility of cutting out a sec...

replacing tub faucet on 1981 tri-cabin
Does anyone have any experience with replacing the tub faucet in the aft cabin head on an 1981 Tri-Cabin. There doesn't seem to be any access to the area behind the built in tub/shower shell and I'm trying to figure out how to install a new shower faucet & fixture to replace the original tub fau...

Re: 36' Tri-Cabin with hard steering
In the meantime I'll try to isolate the source of the friction/binding as you mentioned

Re: 36' Tri-Cabin with hard steering
The problem already existed when I purchased the boat last Fall but since I had never had a boat with hydraulic steering before I thought it might be caused by the boat not being used much in recent years. The marine surveyor did mention that the support for the steering linkage had been relocated f...

36' Tri-Cabin with hard steering
The hydraulic steering on my '81 tri-cabin seems to have a lot of friction in the system. With the hydraulic ram at the rudders disengaged the steering wheel turns very easily but turns very hard when the ram is engaged. Could this be caused by the packing nut on the rudder shafts being too tight ma...

Re: prop sizing for 36' tri-cabin
Thanks, the boat is still on the hard but I should have the new props on and be back in the water by the end of the week and be get in there to see what I have. I already bought a proper shower sump for the Fwd head so will pick up another one for the Aft drain if it doesnt have one in there.

Re: prop sizing for 36' tri-cabin
What Im trying to track down is the drain for the grey water from the tub, on my '81 tri-cabin the vanity under the sink doesnt provide access to it but I havnt torn up the carpet in front of the bet yet.

Re: prop sizing for 36' tri-cabin
The boat is a 1981 . We hit an unmarked shoal on Oneida Lake doing about 5 knots and other than a few paint chips off the keel and the bent props no other damage. I've only had the boat since last Fall and in the process of fixing some minor odds & ends like re-bedding the loose lifeline stanthi...

prop sizing for 36' tri-cabin
Due to a recent grounding I am replacing both my props. The old props are 18 x 18 3-blade however the yard where my boat is has a pair of 18 x 18 4-blade props in stock, any thoughts on how these will perform on my boat with 350ci Crusader Marine engines? The yard guy thinks I should have the 4-blad...

Re: engine removal on 36' Tri-Cabin
Thanks for the info, I might try it that way to keep from wrecking my new cabin ceiling. The 350 chevy blocks hopefully aren't any wider than your Chryslers.

Re: engine removal on 36' Tri-Cabin
If I'm really lucky I won't have to pull the motors. They have low hours and run fine but I'm afraid I didn't winterize them properly and may find a pair of cracked blocks when I get there and open the boat up in the Spring. They are raw water cooled so I just pulled the hose off the water inlet thr...

Re: engine removal on 36' Tri-Cabin
OK, Thanks for the info. I noticed an area on the deck that looked like it could be removed but was hoping there was another way since the previous owner replaced the original ceiling with a custom wooden strip ceiling that came out nice but not designed to be removed

engine removal on 36' Tri-Cabin
I have a 1985 36' Trojan Tri-cabin with twin Crusader 350XL gas engines installed that may need short blocks this Spring. Does anyone have any experience with removing the engines from one of these boats? The engines certainly won't fit thru the companionway door that goes down into the cabin so I c...
