Re: Fixing up my 440s

Just offering my opinion and I agree with mikeandanne. I was considering buying a boat that was 350 miles from my home, but could be brought home on its bottom or by transport. I calculated the costs to bring it back and there was no appreciable difference. Transporting by truck was a little more ex...

Re: New F36 owner

The saga goes on, I was contacted by the owner and renegotiated the price down to a point that I felt was appropriate considering the repairs needed. Yes, the inner stringers at the transom are delaminating. About 2 feet sound delaminated, but I am assuming the damage goes further. As for the tanks ...

Re: New F36 owner

The 2 that changed my mind was stringer "delamination" from transom going 4' forward and both fuel tanks were rusted with the port one actually leaking fuel in the past. Both tanks are currently empty and my guess is that is why. Can replacement fuel tanks even be bought? It wasn't the act...

Re: New F36 owner

Update: I need to change the title of this thread. "Get a survey and save yourself money and stress." Just got the survey and it pays to have pro's do their job. I didn't go into this with rose colored glasses, but felt I could fix the issues I saw. Needless to say the surveyor spotted iss...

Re: New F36 owner

Considered a couple diesel boats for the higher cruise speeds, but felt for the type of boating I'm going to do gas is adequate. Have and still own diesel trucks and the torque makes towing a breeze.

The high diesel prices right now were also a concern.

Re: New F36 owner

It has the lower helm, which I prefer. Not for cruising, but I find its a bit easier to dock without having to climb down or if you have guests and don't want to be alone on the bridge. My last boat (34 Silverton) had the lower helm and for me it's a plus. Starting, bad weather or just socializing i...

Re: New F36 owner

New F36 owner

Good Day I'm in the process of purchasing a 1978 F36 and have been pouring over all the old posts for information. Just a little background on me, I have renovated and rescued or parted out many boats in the past. Even built a 16' bassboat from the Glen-l plans. I fully understand what is involved i...
