Re: Slow leak in bilge, 1987 11 Meter Express

I once had some water collecting on my 10 meter. It was nose heavy and collected in the bow first. I found that the strut backing plate was letting some water in. The through hull bolts needed to be resealed.

Re: Best way to find a leak??

I had a leak problem some years ago and ended up finding it was coming thru where the strut comes into the boat. Could see it dripping from inside the boat where the backing plate is. Easy fix, but a lot of detective work to finally figure it out

Re: About to purchase, looking for pointers

I once saw an old 1970’s Chris Craft with exposed stringers that weren’t glassed on the top half. However, those things were made of pure mahogany or some other hardwood and were solid. They don’t make them like they used to.

Re: 10 Meter Combing Boards

Couple quick photos of the pleated vinyl I went with instead of the original three separate cushion style. The original three cushion style can be seen a little further up the boat. I originally redid the vinyl in plain white keeping the three cushion original style. Like I previously said, the kids...

Re: 10 Meter Combing Boards

The tape is right where people would step in to the boat and is probably covering a tear. The vinyl is simply stapled to the back of the the wood board. Mine combing cushions sat waterlogged for two years with little damage to the back boards. I bet they are not all that rotten. Even if they are, no...

Re: 10 Meter Combing Boards

Re doing those boards with new upholstery is a pretty easy do it yourself project. I re did in all white upholstery with the same pattern of three cushions running across. The kids always seemed to get their feet and hands in between the three causing them to pull away. I recently redid with one ful...

Re: 10 meter rudder extensions

How do you go about getting oversized rudders? I too have a 10M with an autopilot that can give me problems on some days. Because the stock rudders seemed oversized already (compared to other boats), I never thought of that as being the issue. What would I do to find oversized rudders?

Re: Stuffing Box

There is a topic and photos of the coupler removal at pbase website. I think it's under drip less shaft install maybe. Don't forget to mark the trans coupler holes and the shaft couplet holes so they line up as they were prior to removal. You want to reinstall so they butt together exactly as they w...

Re: Anti siphon valves

I had the same problem and found the secondary butterfly on the carb was stuck shut. It happened again a year later. It's a very easy fix. Just gave it a couple taps to knock it loose and sprayed some Carb cleaner in the area.

Re: cutless bearing

Build your own press with a threaded bar from home depot, some large washers, and two nuts. As shown in this article: http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/replacing_a_cutlass not sure about red dot. I put four in as described in article and had no problem at all. Didn't even have to bother with the fr...

Larry When I first saw your post I did not "read" it. I assumed the heating you were talking about had to do with the cutlass bearings going in the strut. Now..having read the post, that sounds like a great idea that i wish i would have read before having to tap my coupler on the shaft. De...

I too heard to go from prop end with sledge and wasted an hour or two and just couldn't get it to work that way. Went from other side (engine room) to get job done.

Pbase also has photos and instructions on removing the flange from the shaft- essentailly it is the same way BobCT described. It is not difficult- but a pain in the a$$ as far as labor goes and getting your body in there. To put flange back on I had to whack the flange repeatedly with a small sledge...

I think you mean the strut (the brace that holds the shaft and contains cutlass bearings). If there is play in there the cutlass needs to be replaced. I had a vibration problem, too. I had the props done by a prop shop and I changed the cutlass bearings. To do the cutlass bearings I had to remove th...
