Re: My new taft rail

Cool BJ, Did the rail you got work on your boat? Larry Hi Larry, Believe it or not, I have not tried yet. The taft rail was a definite safety item and as soon as I sort out the exhaust issue, I'm going to haul out and re-do all the lower hoses, stuffing boxes, and re-condition my through hulls. I'l...

Re: F-32 fresh water tanks

Mine fills pretty quick and the marina has incredible water pressure. It overflows from the top of the tank, so I think the vent hose is missing.

Exhaust Manifold Drain port plugs

After chasing down my exhaust noise issue, I found it was caused by a missing exhaust drain port plug. Whew, nice easy quick and cheap fix (or so I thought).... I pulled one out from another port to get an idea of the size and it would not go back in (now I need two!) After further inspection, it lo...

My new taft rail

I just finished up my new taft rail. I deleted the previous owners construction grade pressure treated 2x6 and replaced it with Ipe. This wood is TOUGH and dense. The rod holders are drilled trough and mounted with backing plates, but the two mounts on top for the bait table had to be tapped for mac...

Re: Shift Cables

I had an issue with my port shift cable. Spraying silicone does very little because it only lubes the firs few inches. I found a solution on line to make a device to force oil all the way down the cable. It was a 24" piece of tube (I think 3/8" ID), a schrader valve, a couple of hose clamp, a bicycl...

Re: About to replace Exhaust Gasgets

Thanks Larry! Were you experiencing and running issues? Other than the noise, she starts well and runs well. I don't think it's skipping a cylinder. It's about time to do new plugs anyway. I used to do plugs, wires, cap, and rotor on each motor, off-set every 2 years. But I am not putting on the hou...

Re: About to replace Exhaust Gasgets

A trick I learned in my muscle car days with headers that always leaked. I cut the holes for the bolts into slots through the bottom of the gaskets so you don't have to remove the manifolds or studs completely. When the gaskets are cut this way all you do is loosen the bolt/nut 1/4" lift out the old...

Re: About to replace Exhaust Gasgets

Might be a good idea to start soaking the bolts with PB Blaster or Kroil. Some of my friends who own auto shops use a 50/50 mixture of ATF and Acetone instead of the commercial penetrating oils. They say it actually works better and is a lot cheaper. I have already been thinking about that. The las...

Re: Tachometer Fluctuating

Better late than never....

The voltage regulator is located under the black cover near the ignition module and passive resistor. RPM jumping is a common symptom from faulty alternators.

Bad Tachometer - Need replacement.

I'm driving along one day and noticed my port tach was well above my normal running reading. I pulled back and noticed the boat was not running right, or sounded right. I usually synch by ear, and throttled back up until it sounded right, despite the tach reading. Also, my throttles were relatively ...

About to replace Exhaust Gasgets

I am getting the signature loud "TICK" from my starboard motor (outboard side of course....) I don't see any exhaust in the engine room, but it reminds me of the same sound my old '78 LeBarron used to make.... I'm getting ready to order up some parts, but I am looking for any "Gotchas" or "May as we...

Re: Trip into salt water

To get back to the core of your question, you should be absolutely fine for venturing into salt water for a few days. You should be all cleaned and flushed out by the time you get back to your home port. Just give the tops sides a good wash.

Re: Mystery Lights? onan Genset parts

Interesting they do correspond to lighting directionals... I was thinking that as well... But it would make more sense if they were side-by-side. Up and down makes my think possibly ignition related. Red for on and green for start. Don't know. IMO, It does not look like a stock configuration and I ...

Re: Mystery Lights? onan Genset parts

I don't have any lights like that. But I do have 2 mystery red lights and I finally figured out they were indicators for the bilge pumps.
