might try NAPA auto supply (likely have a marine catalog at the counter, if you can't get somebody to check for you). I'm pretty sure I bought a Jabsco impeller there a few years back for a Chris Craft I owned at the time -- probably would help to have the parts number for your impeller for possible...

out on a limb here, but I would be inclined to go with the CCW indication on the old starter. If that rotation doesn't make sense for a boat with counter rotating engines, maybe you are dealing with a replacement engine that rotates in the wrong direction for a normal twin engine installation. I'm o...

sorry to hear you didn't get the help -- probably just timing. The ARCO people in Florida are a good source, and offer good call-in assistance. Check their website. Local sources are always good to develop for future use (I had a good rebuilder in Glen Burnie, MD, before moving -- the kind of busine...

I should add that an advantage in using the trolling motor was that you could run the motor at higher rpms and still get a good trolling speed -- better for the motor. In a smaller boat, you are ususally trying to get a ten or fifteen horse idled down slow enough for good trolling.

Codger -- I used an old 10hp Chrysler Sailor ('76) -- started out with the extra long shaft (sailboat model), then converted it to a long shaft. I didn't need the extra leg length. I used a bracket that could be raised and lowered. The old Chryslers used a banana style steering bracket that replaced...

Heefus raises an interesting issue. When I mounted a trolling motor to the Chris Craft transom, I used an electric-start model (push-button starting at the motor was OK). The point was to avoid pull-starting a motor that is a couple of feet or so below the top of the transom. I also got obsessive an...

mounting a kicker motor

I had a 26' Chris Craft Catalina without a swim platform, and managed to mount a trolling motor bracket to the transom. As you point out, there is an issue about backing. I used plywood backing fit (as best I could) to the inner contour of the transom -- 3/4", as I recall, doubled at the point ...

yeah, I like Ebay, particularly for smaller motor parts -- at least the common ones. For boats, though, especially the larger ones that an owner wants to sell himself (i.e., no auction), I think the idea is to list the boat in the local classifieds, word of mouth, and Craig's List, then move to Ebay...

Kelly -- bought the boat? still negotiating? I'm guessing the seller is or was looking for something close to his list by going on Ebay as a last resort -- thinking your examination and/or survey might have turned up some issues on this 30 yr old boat, and that the seller is in a little bit of denia...

upstate NY boat for sale

Craig's List boat (Buffalo region): http://buffalo.craigslist.org/boa/2255223405.html . This looks like a mid to late '50s Sea Queen -- guessing the motor is a mid-'60s Evinrude. I have a nice '57 Johnson that would look perfect on this hull, and sent the lister a late-night note saying I would call...

Ah, yes. The Pumphrey brothers at Fairwinds. I'm sure they are still there in all their glory -- a good source for antique parts, though, if you can stand dealing with them. If you get over to the shore, and like antique outboards, stop by American Outboards in Cordoba (on 50, on the way to Easton)....
