Re: Up Grades

Finally, I think this year is a light work year in the spring. 1) prep and paint forward deck (wish I would have used a 2 part paint years ago... but I guess touch-up is easy. 2) strip failed epoxy coating on toe rail. 3) Pull water tanks I put in late last summer and prime and paint the frames the ...

Re: ELECTRICAL ISSUE, HOME BASED, QUESTION

Aaron, First, I totally agree with Paul. I've held an electrician's lic in the past (many years ago) so I get asked questions all the time. However, I wont give much for answers unless I can go on site and measure things. I'd love to help, but I'm in MN, so a little far away to just pop over some da...

Re: Princess Oven Delete ideas

We stay on our boat 3-4 nights a week from May to Oct. As such, we use the stove all the time. Eggs, , bacon, sweet rolls in the oven, pizza (I seem to find the small ones that fit) lasagna. When its not in use, and closed up, its a bar on top and just another cupboard below. If you pull it, I'd sto...

Re: glass replacement

I'm pretty certain the windows on our F36 come apart by disassembling the bottom edge of the frame. There are surface screws that hold in the frame for the sliding screens. then, you slide the window all the way in one direction and slide out the "H" channel plastic track it rides on aroun...

Re: See anything wrong with this AC install by customer.

I have what looks to be the same unit (mine is 'Artic Air'). Installed around 2008. 19K BTU. Mine is installed below the lower helm (in the spot shown next to your water tank in the first shot). I have a 4" duct running back to the starboard side salon, one 4" line that runs to the lower b...

Re: 1973 Trojan canvas

Pretty much need to find a local canvas shop and have them make you one. You can save about 50% of the cost if you buy an industrial walking foot machine and make your own. After getting quotes in the $6500-$8500 range to make new canvas for our F36, I opted to buy the machine and teach myself how t...

Re: My boat is in dry dock but?

I've replaced my spray rails. I had the guy at Woodshop 102 in Key Largo FL make me a set from teak. He made the kits in 1" strips that tapered. I layed up the first board against the hull with black 5200 and screws (use 4200 if you ever want to take them off. I figure i never would or have to ...

Re: Cleaning the bottom of all paint to barrier coat

I don't know what you read that was negative about soda blasting, but for me, its nothing short of a miracle! I have had far too much time with strippers and sanding to ever do it again. Also, if you do continue to sand, you are crazy if you don't have a positive pressure mask. Just a strap around t...

Re: Pump out WATER tank

A couple of other ideas. When you drain your tank before putting in the liquid bleach or tabs, turn off your water heater and drain it as well. You'll actually have to open the spigot on the bottom of the hot water heater and open a sink hot water faucet for it to drain. It can take 30-40 minutes to...

Re: Bad smell in 10 meter closet

I'd wonder about the vent line. Over time, they absorb the odors. I'm not familiar with the inner workings of the 10M. Is it fairly easy to replace the lines?

6.5 Onan Spec C Genny issues

My 73 6.5 Onan (spec C) is giving me fits. The main contactor has gone bad. The Genny runs and puts out AC on the genny side of the contactor but it does not "pull in". If I pull it in manually, I get AC to the electrical pannel. Onan does not have them anymore. The cross ref # is over $25...

Re: This is getting old

I'm sorry to report that upstream from you in Red Wing, MN its really no better. The river just crested on Sunday as is finally on its way backdown. Power was cut off to our dock the Tuesday before and its not certain to be back on any time soon. I tried to get on the river last friday in my fishing...

Re: Neutral "sweet spot" for starting engines

Last time I had the shift linkage apart mine worked like this... Under the cover on the helm, there is a spring loaded ball in the shift lever that slides on a arc shaped plate. In the center of the plate, there is hole drilled which is the neutral spot. I could not "feel" neutral as over ...

Re: Wet exhaust system

Perhaps a silly question but is your boat on the hard or in the water? if its on the hard, you likely are just not getting enough water flow. I can idle an engine while the boat is blocked up but if I go over 1100 RPM, it heats up un-evenly like you are stating. +1 on finding the chunk of lost rubbe...

Re: Sliding door

If its the rollers, take one off and bring it to your local hardware store. They can find you a roller bearing with the same width and outside diameter of the wheel. They, they can find you a brass bushing as in insert to take up the inner diameter of the bearing. Slip the two togehter and re-instal...
