Re: Back to the hollow keel!
I actually cut a hole in the top glass and put a whale 650 in there. I have almost no water in her most of the time, and what is there moves around now so it does not stink. I also drilled a drain plug in the hollow keel in the stern so when she is on the hard, all water is out. At the same time, ea...

Re: Replace Carpet / Refresh Woodwork
A little...but not worth the worry, much better to have the cuts than remeoving the carpet when you need to get in there. I trim the fray when it gets bad, but after a month or so its pretty much stops.

Re: Replace Carpet / Refresh Woodwork
I cut the large hatches in as well and used snaps to hold the carpet in place. I also put hinges on the hatches so I can just tip them up.

Re: Replace Carpet / Refresh Woodwork
Yes, I actually use her for pleasure, so I bought a remnant and cut and placed it in. I built the hatch top out of wood flooring, and then cut the carpet so I could open the hatches if needed. That was in the salon. In the lower area of the cabin, that is a solid piece. Let me send a picture.

Re: Replace Carpet / Refresh Woodwork
On the teak, I redid all of mine...used Goop hand cleaner with bronze wool, fine and then three coats of oil...looks new On the carpet, I put new carpet in but did not glue it as I pull it up every winter so I can work on the boat without messing it all up. Comes out, I clean it, put it away until t...

Re: Mast Light
I installed a new Radar Arch, so I also installed the new mast light on that. What happened to me is that the running portion worked from my switch on the bridge, but not the anchor light. On the anchor light, I had to go down to the salon to turn that on. Strange, I think the light pull switch coul...

Re: Oil Filter for Chrysler 318
When I first bought mine, I had the same, I used water pump pliers and just wrenched it off as I wasn't worried about any damage to the filter itself. (Big ones and the long handles really helped and it was very tight on space) I would not leave it for next year, if it is a problem now, I would be s...

Re: Reconsidering
I say GO FOR IT! If spending money on boats had to make sense (cents), I don't think any of us should have them. But if you really want to do it, go for it. Life is short so spend away, build what you want, and when the money does not make sense, you did what you wanted to do. It will cost I wish yo...

Re: Cleaning the bottom of all paint to barrier coat
I won't know until I get the 38yrs of build up off, but I think that is the best plan once I am down to the glass.

Re: Cleaning the bottom of all paint to barrier coat
I spoke to Pettit yesterday at the Newport Boat show, and since I like the hydrocoat product, I will be using their barrier coat. apply three times. Pettit Protect in grey to be different than the gel coat.

Cleaning the bottom of all paint to barrier coat
Anyone have any recommendations to clean all the paint off the bottom of the boat? I was originally going to soda blast but in reading am a little scared. I am now thinking paint remover. Any guidance would be appreciated. Nasty job for sure, but I think I need to do it as even though I sanded heavi...

Re: Just my 1973 F322 cruising, 27 mph, how fast is yours?
I have reached 25 knots at WOT but that is really pushing it. And only once in three years Cruz at 16-19 knots at 3200 on 318's. I wish it was 22, but that would require a change out of engines to Crusaders I think. Running 4 blades now.
