Re: Velvet Drive replace rebuild?

Back in action! Complete success. Ran her out on the big lake at 3k rpms to make sure there was no slippage, fwd/rev nice and smooth. Now just need to keep tabs on fluid...:) In case anyone else needs to remove theirs, some tips: --Need two screw jacks to support rear of engine since drive is rear s...

Re: Velvet Drive replace rebuild?

Clutches were not warped as badly as I would have expected, and a few hugging each other tight. They did show more than normal wear due to slipping. She is back in, and initial dock test is success. First few minutes in neutral she spun the prop slightly, but after a few fax/rev changes, oil is bubb...

Re: Velvet Drive replace rebuild?

Lol, thanks, and will post results. There are some tricky points during the process, and being the first time on one of these, taking special care. But not nearly as bad as some engines/ Tranny's I have done prior. Already thinking about how to put in a float level type sensor...... Or.... Just take...

Re: Velvet Drive replace rebuild?

Wow, parts came in in two days, slapped her back together and did a bench test. Used a large hand drill that would turn in reverse connected to a genuine redneck high pressure hose adaptor. Got enough rpms to actually shift, but going into reverse put a good load on it however it would shift into re...

Re: Velvet Drive replace rebuild?

Found one on Ebay, so yes, Yes, clutches are all out waiting for the new set. Hope to get it all back together next week. All parts look good yet, just the melted baffle.

Re: Velvet Drive replace rebuild?

Ok I got it apart. It seems the very low oil level caused it to get a bit warm, well very warm and down right hot. Hot enough to melt the oil baffle as seen in the pic. The melted baffle was holding the ring gear from moving to the reverse position. So experts, is the baffle necessary? gonna try to ...

Re: 11Meter bilges

Glad to help, good to see another 11 meter owner out there. Not as many out there as the 10-10.8 meters. Especially the same year. Im trying to find window screw covers for ours. Old ones are in bad shape.... Not leaking, but looking bad.

Re: 11Meter bilges

I also have a 88 11 meter, and all three are common and as noted, middle bilge is at the high point, the fuel level does affect this somewhat, but regardless, you MUST verify every bilge pump works.... All three are easy access that is unless the bow is covered in tacked down carpet...... BTW, every...

Re: Velvet Drive replace rebuild?

By the way Todd, nice looking project with it all painted up. Only certain people can appreciate and enjoy pulling up engine room covers and showing them off. :)

Re: Velvet Drive replace rebuild?

Ok, got the beast out. (twice). Took it out the first time, spun the shafts, and all felt fine. Knowing it needed fluid flow from the pump to shift it, I figured nothing too loose putting it back in, filling it up, and trying it. JR, told me it was seized and killed the motor, but since I could spin...

Re: Velvet Drive replace rebuild?

Where were you able to obtain the manual for rebuilding? I have original manual, just not rebuilding step by step.

Re: Velvet Drive replace rebuild?

Yes, I believe straight drive. That sounds encouraging for the cheap rebuild considering. I'll post after extraction and diss-assembly. Yes, pretty Handy. 2 snowmobiles, 2 motor cycles, 4 vehicle engines and a transfercase under my belt. Sounds doable.

Velvet Drive replace rebuild?

Ok, lesson #1.... Even though you could not pull out the dipstick to check fluid level, don't assume it is Ok... Lesson #2: don't let JR take his friends out fishing until you can verify #1.... Result; seized velvet drive. Soooo, it ran dry ( which explains transmission oil in center bilge after inv...

Re: 11 meter window seals

I actually thought of the black silicone trick, but would like to keep it as original as possible, but if i cannot find the right covers, good to know there are options. Boats do leak from the bottom AND the top.....

Re: 11 meter window seals

Great suggestions, i will have to get a measurement of the gap, and figure out what strip fits best. I found a few marine window strip suppliers as well that had some similar, but need to measure. Once I find what fits, Ill get some ordered and post what I used for others to reference if needed. But...
