Jim, that sounds like a nightmare!! Thankfully it all worked out ok, too bad you had to get two new tanks when there shouldn't have been a problem. I was lucky, most of the gas that had dripped was contained in a small area so it cleaned up ok. I've lost faith in the racor setup though, its only 4yr...

Just got back from the boat and everyting is OK. Rick, what make fume detector do you have? I definitely will be installing one during the off season. I'm also going to change the racor filter setup I have. It has three parts, the filter, bowl, and drain plug, and install one that has one part, simi...

Always be careful with gas

Got an unpleasant suprise today. Just as I boarded the boat, I thought I smelt gas fumes. Opened up the cabin and yep, I smelled gas fumes though it wasn't that bad. First thing I did was open everything up, shut off the shorepower and began to investigate. Turns out my Racor fuel/water separator fi...

Rick, As far as runnning the engine to the recommended rpm, I believe what you are referring to has to do with your maximum recomended rpm. For example, my engine has a recomended rpm of 4800-5200. If you are below that, say 4400 rpm maximum, then you have your boat over propped and the engine is &q...

Striperman has pretty much hit the nail on the head. Alot of it depends on how fast the current is running, also don't forget to factor in the wind. Remember, the rudder on an F-26 is pretty small and the prop is only 14" in diameter. If you aren't running with your stern directly in the curren...

Barry, How fast are you going when your boat makes the hard turn? I have an F-26, but it is a single inboard. If I go any faster than 23 knots, the boat is a little sensitive, when I hit 30 knots, a person moving from one side of the boat to the other can make the boat start to act like that. Mine h...

Thanks Dreamer, will have to get around to posting some pics of her. Thanks for all of the feedback. The thruster definitely would be a great docking aid for sure. Over the years I've become pretty comfortable docking, can almost spin her around in her own length. However on those windy days and in ...

My boat currently doesn't have a tube cut in. I was going to have it done by a company that specializes in bow thruster installation. A person at my marina had one installed on a 34' mainship. They did an excellent job installing it, looks as if it came from the factory that way. Unfortunately he pa...

Bowthruster

Just wondering if anyone's tried installing one. I'm thinking about having one installed on my F-26 and have started to research them. Was wondering if anyone has experience with them. I have a pretty easy slip to get into, but it is alway nice to have that extra hand when needed

It all depends on how much you want to spend on the project and how long you are thinking of holding on to the boat. Probably the easiest would be to install rebuilt (long block) 318's. I don't have that much experience with the straight 6, but I'm sure you'd have to take some measurements to make s...

Chuck pretty much hit on everything. I also have a 75 F-26. It's been a great boat for me, but I've pretty much experienced all the same problems as chuck. They weren't anything that couldn't be repaired with time or money. I'd definitely get a survey, you'll need it for insurance anyway. As for tow...

Sounds like you're over propped. A crusader 454 should be in the range of 4200-4400 rpm. Just as an example, when I repowered my F-26 with a 5.7 fuel injected engine, I have an WOT rpm range of 4800-5200. When the yard ran the specs with the boat they gave me a 14x14 prop. I was only able to obtain ...

Sounds like it doesn't have may hours on it at all. One benefit to having one engine is that it's alot easier to keep on top of one than having double trouble.... Enjoy the rest of the season and keep that fridge stocked!
