you asked for opinions so here goes. unless you absolutely love your boat, converting it to diesels by paying a professional mechanic to do it will make no financial sense. It would very likely be significantly cheaper and easier to sell it and buy a boat that has diesels already. If you're OK with ...

Bob, going from memory, and this is based on the F series setup, there were 2 factors effecting "toe" . The first was rudder "toe", which I think is what your questioning. This is the angular offset of each rudder to the other when traveling straight. If you have a flutter vibrat...

I can't tell you the exact thickness but it is a sandwich - inner fiberglass skin, wood core, outter fiberglass skin. I'd say 3/4-1" is about right.

As an experienced painter- I'll add my .02c. First- Harbor Freight has some decent guns and some real junk. If you buy a gun through them- buy one of the knock-off's # 43430 or #66222. Both of these are HVLP and spray pretty well. Second- Ask yourself what the goal is for the job. Is it just to clea...

I didn't see specific reference to the engines being 6B's.... if they are 555's or the VT (unlikely)- not that good of a deal.

"most conventional" Universal joints are not designed to carry thrust loads. When the prop pushes the boat- all that counter force is transmitted up the shaft and actaully pushes on the transmission which has special thrust bearings to absorb the load. Think about what would happen if a un...

depending on use- very important. Also very important to make sure it's sound since one side (large ports) carry sea water and the small ports carry transmission fluid. The "separation" walls can and do fail which can cost you the tranny. There not too expensive- I'd get a new one with som...

Guglielmo- I appreciate anyone looking to better understand the hows and why's of anything so let me give you my .02c. You are correct that if only the engine and gear have been changed, the shaft and strut locations should be fine with a few exceptions- 1) the shaft and flange must be in good shape...

I understood that doing the alignment in water was the preferred method as blocking often does not support the hull and gear in the same attitude as water. Am I incorrect in this view :?: Doing a full alignment in the water is fine, if you have a trained mechanic down in the bilge while underway. O...

Boys- unless I'm in an alternate universe- all this talk of alignment being easier on the hard and refining alignment while in motion is misleading and downright dangerous. A true "shaft aligment" must be done in the water- after the hull has been afloat for a few days and after any compli...

Jeremy- there's a couple different velvet drive variants. With a 318, you most likely have a 71C. If that's the case, my understanding is that changing the pump can address using the gear with a different rotation engine. HOWEVER - it does get somewhat confusing from here. The consensus is that the ...

A 6BT is very tight in an F-32 engine room. According to my dimensions, there is about 31.5" in height form the floor just inside the outter stringer to the salon under floor. The 6BT series, without downangle gearbox is about 32.5" form pan to filler cap.
