Re: Onan 6.5 died, see sparks!

I mainly want to keep the fridge going and the inverter says that's only drawing 260 watts running which should last for our trips. So 7 hours max away from shore power, fridge being only AC load? How are you recharging the batteries? Lead acid i presume? Yes, I could by additional batteries, but t...

Re: Onan 6.5 died, see sparks!

Your sparks more than likely came from the generator side of your unit. No ignition protection there. That girl is what generates your raw regulated power to your system. There are windings, capacitors, and a rectifier that all are capable of little bolts of lightning ( which is why you should ALWA...

Re: Onan 6.5 died, see sparks!

Any thoughts on using the shore gen switch for an inverter. Is it two hot legs coming from the gen (split phase?) or one?

Re: Onan 6.5 died, see sparks!

Ignition protection means no sparks. Sparks = NO Ignition protection!!! If you have enough fumes in the bilge, you are a gonner. Need to get it fixed or replacement solution. Don't even try to run it unless 100% positive of fully ventilated / guaranteed absolutely no fumes. Yes I agree, I'm not sur...

Onan 6.5 died, see sparks!

Hey Gang My generator stopped running after about 10 minutes with a small load on it. When I went in the bilge and hit the start switch it turned over hard, did not start and I could see sparks in the end bell area of the generator. I assume there is some kind of failure in the brushes but I am more...

Re: ACT Paint color

Thanks for the advice on the PCA Gold paint, it's holding the color much better than the ACT. The new top helps also :D

Re: ACT Paint color

Thanks, I'll check that too. It's a 1979 with Chrysler 360s. My wife and I restored it for my parents, who had let the maintenance slide as they approached their 90's. My wife did most of the cosmetic and interior work, including all the woodwork and carpeting (I don't know how she cut a single piec...

ACT Paint color

After soda blasting and base coating the bottom of our 1979 36 Tri, we put on Interlux ACT ablative dark blue bottom paint. It went on near black and after contact with the water it changed to medium blue above the water line (close to Trojan Blue). As the season went on it got lighter and chalkier....

Re: Circulation pump failure

I had the circulation pump go on my Chrysler 360 (1979 36 Tri) last summer, it was still pumping but water all over the place. I got an omnidirectional marine pump on eBay for about $100 (well two because we know everything happens in pairs). Toughest part of the job was cleaning up the mounting sur...

This is the same year as my 36 TriCabin, when I told my friend about this, he said why don't you buy it as a spare :-)

Re: F36 Overheating both engines

I have a 36 Tri that had a similar problem, I tried some of the same things as you did. I took the dock water hose and hooked it up to the raw water line going to the hull strainer, blew out what ever was caught in the hull inlet. Rich My wife and I put 300 hours into restoring my parents boat for t...
