Hi Fred, There's a couple of options for you to choose from at your engine and trans mount locations. First, and the way I like to do this, is to choose a piece of hardwood such as oak or somthing similar and notch it into the plywood stringer. You have to keep in mind that this is the point where t...

Hey Old Salt, When starter shops test these things, it's usually not under load like it is when it's actually cranking your engine. When actually cranking the engine, a lot of amps are drawn thru the relay contacts which, if rough, can cause them to stick. I'm assuming that your Mercruiser is a GM p...

Hi Fred When laminating the ply wood togeather, I use a combination of screws and clamps. Using West System with silica as the adhesive, clamp the layers of ply wood togeather snugly but not so tight that it squeezes out all of the glue, then add brass screws. If the stringer is long enough to requi...

Stringer

Hi Fred, When doing this type of replacement, I prefer to use layers of marine ply wood standing on edge and laminated together. The chances of this fitting snugly into your existing fiberglass pocket however are slim. When installing this type of laminated stringer, I usually remove "all"...

Vinyl

We' ve just finished removing the vinyl covering from the bulkheads in our F-26. Like Dan said, "it was glued on with atomic glue". Some of the glue, and wood, came off with the vinyl but the rest of the glue had to be removed with a heat gun and scraper at a slow rate of a couple inches a...

ID Number

The hull number on my transom is partially covered by the swim platform but the same number can also be found inside the door for the electrical panel under the helm. TRJ****

PlastX

Meguiar's makes a product called PlastX for cleaning up scratched or cloudy plastic head lights. I've used it and it seems to work well. My guess is that it would work well on your windshield.

Hope this helps

Cockpit Glass

Hi Brent, To remove the cockpit glass, you have to slip it out of the "H" shaped plastic slide that caps it at the top & bottom. To do this, try slipping a butter knife between the glass and the plastic (without twisting it) and work your way along from one end to the other while spray...

CruisAir

I'm in the process of installing a 12,000 BTU CruisAir air conditioner with reverse heat in my F-26. I'm not sure wether I should give it it's own shore power plug, or wire it into the existing electrical panel where it can be powered by the generator as well as shore power. The generator is a 2.5kw...

Stringers

First, congratulations on your purchase. F-32's are really nice boats, however since the boat is as old as it is long, your sure to find things that need repair or updating and personalizing. Second, any lemon laws that I'm aware of involving used boats have to do with how big a slice to put in your...

valve

Gopher,

My F-26 draws water thru this valve for cooling the engine. I have upgraded this valve to a ball style valve.

Hope this helps

Teak & Holly

Thanks for all the replies, JuiceClark, it sounds like you've already done this same job. I was under the impression that if I used a glossy finish that the floor would be slippery and really show scuffs and scratches. Am I wrong in thinking this? I'm hoping to find a finish that will hold up to dec...

Teak & Holly

When we did the restoration on our boat in 2001, we had replaced all of the formica faced cabin doors & drawers with custom red mohagony. We then stripped the existing teak trim then refinished all of the wood with Sikkens Cetol Marine matt base coat & clear top coat. The two types of wood b...

Power Tilt

I'm not sure what year unit you have but they pretty much all operate on the same principal. Up and down motion of the drive is achived reversing the direction of rotation of the 12V motor on the top of the pump. There are 2 electric solenoids mounted on the outside of the pump that control the dire...
