Re: Isolation switch

You've got a short. If you've got your wiring done right it could be in the switch.

Re: Trying to get an 11 Meter on Plane

I went and pulled my cover Friday, and started doing some spring cleaning. I had tied my tarp down along the platform last fall, and when I was untying it I looked at my tabs. It got me thinking about this thread with the 11m. My tabs are mounted to the bottom of the hull, not the transom, and the t...

Re: Fuel senders

Nice upgrade Paul. I have used those before, they work very well.

Not ready to do mine yet. I still get extremely accurate readings on my fuel gauges. I'm not really sure why considering their age though, but I'm not complaining.

Re: Battery Bank & Inverters or Gensets?

Unfortunately you are probably not going to better your system much with batteries considering what you said you like to put power to. I have a similar amount of amp hours available to me and I always run the generator for larger loads like the stove or heat. Often enough I end up needing to charge ...

Re: F32 hght wght

I agree the weight in the specs is probably a bare dry weight and as such is a little low.

12'8" to the waterline is with the masthead. If you drop it I think you get to 11'9" IIRC. Slightly less than that if you feel like taking the windscreen off the bridge as well.

Re: Dockage Fees

The new boat market is Pontoon, wakeboard and smaller boats. Thats for sure. 70 and 80k is now within the realm of the pontoon boat market for some of the larger models. Can you imagine that kinda loot for a couple canoes filled with foam that have patio furniture bolted to them? I sure as hell can...

Re: Strainer advice do's/don'ts...

The whole thing is bronze. Bolts too. What Big D says about loosening the face plate bolts to see if the valve will close is good advice. I had forgot about that trick on these old Groco style sea cocks. I keep thinking about this problem and can't help but to wonder how thin the metal has gotten. I...

Re: Strainer advice do's/don'ts...

$hitty. You gotta do something about that, and soon. Do you have a generator intake thru-hull that you could plumb your engine to on a temporary basis in order to make it to a sling? That would probably be enough cooling to run at slow speeds to the harbor. You could plug that from below and make a ...

Re: Dockage Fees

Similar to Big D, I haven't dealt with dockage fees at a marina or club in a very long time due to leaving that model and getting property with its own waterfrontage and dock. Having the boat at the house is also a nice way to be able to keep any eye on it. I do however pay for winter storage each s...

Re: Trying to get an 11 Meter on Plane

This might not be the issue here but I remember a guy who had mistakenly painted the bottom of his boat with ablative anti foul designed for a sail boat or slow trawler to wear off as it moves---well he could barely get the boat up --- all was restored after he got that stuff off and the proper on ...

Re: Replacing Alternators with more Power

It may seem like a good idea to upgrade alternator output, espescially on the house side, but as mentiond by a few of the guys above you have to be careful and consider several issues so you come out with an acceptable finished product. I don't like the idea of simply rewinding an old alt to put out...

Re: Buying my first Trojan

If its an f-30 you want there is one that gets put up on the hard behind me every winter. I have known the owner since I was a little kid, and he is getting older. He would probably sell it and not want a ton of cash for it. He has owned it since it was new and its in decent shape for its age. I'm s...

My guess would be its a '74 or so. Split shift levers with wooden handles on the lower helm.

Whats nice is that it had its running gear updated in 2099.
