What was wrong with the factory overboard discharge? my 82 tri cab had a marineaire unit with a manufacture date of 94 installed in the aft cabin closet with the condensate hose dumping into the bilge . the ac panel was only labeled for heat so i assu...

Re: Shorepower indicator lights - Int'l

I found a relatively simple fix for the obsolete polarity indicators. I purchased the sperry brand outlet checkers at my local menards , broke them apart and took out the bulbs and resistors and potted them into the old indicator housings with hot glue . Installed insulated spade connectors in the w...

Re: 83 36 foot tri cabin questions.

[[/quote] Using Sea cast to repair a string is a patch at best. The even tell you its not made to be used this way , and not made to stick to wood . And Again no one here is paying tens of thousands for things above the skill set . They are doing it them selves . Unless your skill set is pooping par...

Re: 83 36 foot tri cabin questions.

Right , being a smallblock chevy the stringer could be patched by supporting the engine and pulling one exhaust manifold and motor mount for working room . All this goes back to my earlier point of how some folks have tens of thousands of dollars to pour into a boat and pay for things that get over ...

Re: 83 36 foot tri cabin questions.

I know a guy that bought a tricabin for a song He spent 3 years, fixed it up, replaced one engine, and made a beautiful boat to enjoy Now that he's got the hardest work behind him, he's invested about $10,000 total and lots of sweat equity. The boat is operable and he's enjoying it on a regular bas...

Re: 83 36 foot tri cabin questions.

A good trained ear can tap on the stringers to get a good idea and drill as need to check ( with the owner ok ) and fill with epoxy regardless of condition and regardless if you buy or not . You said you found a cracked block that had been repaired , if the seller did not disclose tis what else is ...

Re: 83 36 foot tri cabin questions.

Have a survey done. Then make a decision. I think you have already figured out what the normal expenses will be for a boating season. Then you can budget for any repairs you want to do. No one has said RUN. When I had a survey done 21 years ago there were 3 pages of deficiency's after reading the su...

Re: 83 36 foot tri cabin questions.

Posting Break out another thousand to a guy that is doing his best to educate himself is not helpful . Call em like I see em . Chill out , its someone's way of saying that owning and maintaining a 36' foot is far from cheap .A 36 foot boat is 4 to 5 times the boat a 21 footer is . Everyone that has...

Re: 83 36 foot tri cabin questions.

Hi Swampman, "I have very strong opinions about the leak in your aft cabin. The majority of these boats had it. " I can't see the aft end of your boat but I can tell from the photo you included that it was not an early model but rather was produced later. Do you have a rear sole or is you...

Re: 83 36 foot tri cabin questions.

Thanks for the input . My first boat was a 79 sea ray with a soft transom , cracked block and manifolds and an alpha gen 2 that had been hacked into a gen 1 gimbal ring and had 4 cylinder gears in although the boat had a 305 chevy. I knew none of this when I bought it . The outdrive wouldn't even go...

Re: 83 36 foot tri cabin questions.

Its good you looked at some costs . You sound like your very hands on and that's a must on a older boat or a large check book :D . Your brought out the stringers . Something that should be looked at in any boat of that age . Remember no one knows what you can and cannot do . I love the question &qu...
