Re: Fuel Tank Removal

I don't think there is an easier way than taking out from above.... do you have any kind of access hatch? These tanks are from 1978 and still are OK. https://c2.staticflickr.com/4/3137/3016439848_b41b54187e_b.jpg Saw dust?? You sure that is not contamination that got in the tank. What does the outsi...

Re: Cabin Water Leak

What ended up fixing this? I may have the same problem I believe it is the seal under the window frame.... it will then drip down the hold down bolts for the window and then drop on the inside of the headliner, then centre of galley table. I had this and saw that while my headliner was removed for ...

Re: Soft deck

Wow! Was there any part of the deck you didn't replace. Amazing. I know what your saying about gravity and voids, but with the smaller area I was planning to do, I thought I'd use an inflated bladder from below. Not sure what that is exactly yet. I also thought I'd drill holes where the anchor fitt...

Re: Soft deck

Your boat looks great. I'm surprised you can paint over a bed liner. I would think the paint would crack being over a soft surface. I've been studying my soft deck issue and I'm planning to cut the bad out from below. I figure that the area being about a foot by a foot I can mange the work from bel...

Re: All most new F32 owner

I use Butyl-l tape to bed... it never hardens so it maintains a seal even when there is slight movement in the hold down area...... not so when you use a compound that sets up!! See here: http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/rebedding_hardware I guess our bridges must be higher in Ontario: All I remov...

Re: Bow Thruster Installation/Use

This is hardly the first thread where "real" boaters have bad-mouthed bow thrusters. The fact of the matter is, regardless of how awesome your technique is, bow thrusters make your boat more maneuverable. Remember when anti-lock brakes came along? And airbags? People bad-mouthed them as u...

Re: Bow Thruster Installation/Use

Here's another link that gives some good info. http://dunncruisingguide.com/ddunn/BoatHandling.htm I'm currently using the "Docking With A Bow Line" and "Aft Spring Line" techniques described in this link. They work very well for when the wind is blowing the boat off the dock fo...

Re: Bow Thruster Installation/Use

Dog House, Check out this youtube video. Obviously things are little different between a wood boat model on a towel and the real world but I thought you might gain something from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjUMocc1_4w Thanks for that.... A picture is worth all the words I used and more. St...

Re: Bow Thruster Installation/Use

My wife does not need to leave the bow to apply the spring line. We're using a device called the docking stick ( http://www.dockingstick.com ) to deploy the spring line. The boat is 28 feet long (including swim platform) and the spring line is 14 feet from the bow chock to the end of the loop. The ...

Re: Bow Thruster Installation/Use

My home port is side to docking with the current running parallel to the dock at anywhere from 1 mph to 3 mph. Because of the current I do not always have the opportunity to dock port side to. I often have to dock starboard side to in order to have my bow into the current. The prevailing wind at my...

Re: Bow Thruster Installation/Use

Captain, I understand that there can be rare times when one's docking skills still cannot over come something like 30 knot offshore wind....... but in that case would one's thruster in fact have had the power to do a better job than 200+ HP engines?? I just don't see it as an economic or cost effect...

Re: Bow Thruster Installation/Use

Will the extra weight of the thruster battery in bow be something you will be happy with? And then keeping it fully charged? Remembering back to the days when I had a single... which I now only have on my dinghy. ;) Can you change your method of handling the spring line to work from midships while s...

Re: Raw water alarm saves the day

I wanted the WIF sensors because our boat on the west coast took on a load of bad fuel. The sensors let me know when I needed to change the filters and I did not have any issues with leaks. I looked at the photos of your boat, very nice! Mine is a 41 but has almost exactly the same interior. The bu...
