I don't have a marina yet. I had a slip in Sir Aaron's marina lined-up, but then someone who actually HAD a boat already went and signed a contract and paid their money -- the nerve of some people! I didn't want to pay for a slip until I had a boat, so now I am looking again. I did sign a one month ...

My first happiest day....

Well, I did it. We were at the beach last June when my wife said the words that every man wants to hear. You know the ones -- "Why don't we get a boat?" After basically 9 months of window shopping and getting our finances in order, and 3 months of serious shopping, I bought a boat. When I ...

Meter -- No delamination or sponginess noted. It's just that some parts indicate moisture and some do not.

I agree that the correct interpretation of moisture content readings are elusive.

I accepted the owner's counter. Had the survey today. Things went much smoother than the first time I saw the boat. The owner reports that his wife was having was having a hard time letting go of the boat. It had only been on the market for a week when I first saw it. I learned today that she cried ...

I cannot recommend this guy. We got into an argument as to whether the wood in the stingers contributed to their strength or not ( he said NOT), and he basically threatened to leave in the middle of the survey -- picked-up his clipboard and started to leave and everything. If it wasn't a 5 hr. round...

The subject boat is a 1985 Tricab with 622 hours on 270 Crusaders. Raw water cooled without so much as an actual strainer, clamshell scoops on the pick-ups only. The front and rear oil seals leak, and cannot be replaced with the engines in their mounts. The starboard inboard head shows evidence of p...

Crusader 270 head gasket replacement cost?

Has anyone replaced head gaskets on a 270 crusader recently? I'm looking at a boat that needs head gaskets at least, and am trying to get a feel for the amount of ca$h it would take to change them out. Engines are brackish raw water cooled and show evidence of prior water leakes between the head and...

411 is the telephone number that you call for directory information in the US. Using 411 colloquially like this is short-hand for saying that you are providing information about something.

Why would i want to document a vessel?

So assuming that I'm not planning on visiting foreign ports, or getting a loan to pay for my boat, and that the idea of registration numbers near the bow doesn't bother me, what is the point of documenting a vessel, especially in Maryland? It looks like Maryland's governor Martin OweMalley requires ...

Surveyor recommendation needed for upper Chesapeake bay

I am about 90% sure (that's to say me and the seller are within 10% on the price) that I'll need a surveyor for a tricab near the top of the Chesapeake. Any references would be appreciated. Since I'm a cash buyer and want to move things along quickly if we come to agreement, I just wanted to get a h...

http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1985/Trojan-36-Tri-Cabin-2478716/MD/United-States I made an offer on this boat. We are within $3k, the only problem is, it is slightly out of my price range. Because I wanted this sale to go through, my first bid was for all of the allowance money my Mrs. gave me to ...

Two things that are not obvious in the link. You need to cut away all of the unsound material so that your repair has a solid foundation to which to attach. Secondly, you need to grind a taper around the edge of the hole that is left. A 12:1 taper is in order, i.e., a 1/4" thick laminate needs ...

Does your neighbor have a tricab to sell?

I had another near-miss on a tricab purchase today. Just like the last one, the owner claims to have not been told by the broker that I was coming, so naturally when I interrupted their cruise (they were not at the dock, even though I called the broker on Friday and said that I was coming Saturday, ...
