Re: Jobs done on weekend,rant.

CP----- thanks for the explanation, so far it is one of the things that I have not looked into.I did plug into the aft power feed and could only get the stbd meter to read, can,t remember if that crossover was closed or open.If I understand what you are saying, the stbd main switch should be left ope...

Jobs done on weekend,rant.

I cannot seem to remember camera but here goes. 1.Repaired booboo on port aft corner with interlux (epoxy putty) ,I found that was a previous bad repair 2.During above repair discovered keel bleeding, so decided that to open up bottom would not be good at this point. 3.Drilled 1 " hole in false...

Re: F32 rudder anodes

BigD thanks for that-------I think that I will just put the magnesium anodes on the shafts and keep an eye on them as the season progresses .If we check with the marina owner about the cathodic protection there we can draw a better conclusion, nobody seems to carry the magnesium rudder anodes anyway...

Re: F32 rudder anodes

Are the metal fittings on your boat bonded? If so, there may be no need to zinc your rudders unless a reference anode shows you are under-zinced. I will have to check that as I am not totally familiar with this boat yet----bonding was an option. One question---- what is a reference anode? The zincs ...

Re: raw water pump

Here is something that I came across years ago with a carver we had, twin crusaders, one engine always ran hotter ,drove me nuts until I found out that was the engine with the water heater attached and when I plugged that off all was well, can't remember if that engine had a hotter thermostat or not it...

Re: Water in Oil

Sorry to here of all this---- if you want to know what is in your muddy oil, just take a sample of the oil you removed,be sure to shake the jug first and fill a jam jar or something clear and leave to settle---- if it is water then it will separate and be on the bottom with the oil on top after bein...

Cmount,I see in your pics that you have the same tilting anchor roller as I have. I just got one of those and windlass from Good----wondering how you installed yours as I have not even had chance to scope it out yet( ice and snow still)---boat looks great in the pics, hull looks like new- I will be h...

Re: cutless bearing

Noticed you mentioned making the bore bigger--- maybe not a good idea as the bearings are designed to be installed with a certain amount of press--that being said make doubly sure the bore is free of all nicks however small---do you have the installation type tool which will press into place --- mea...

Re: Engine oil

A O B----- one question, did the rebuild come with new cams and lifters--- if so stick with the rotella or something with the zddp additives ,if not it is a question of how much you want to spend changing oil ---not knowing bearing clearances etc would probably make me stay on the safe side with the...

Re: Engine oil

I agree also----when your engine was built all the oils had the required additives (zinc) etc to protect flat tappet cams from wear. Metals have since been removed from passenger car oil ( roller cams now and EPA.) ,that being said Diesel engines still need the stuff and also race engines with solid...
