Crazy Idea...
I'm thinking about buying a boat in FL to use 2-3 weeks a year. How crazy is that? I'd like to find a yard/marina that would look out for it and prep it before I arrive. HHome port somewhere from Melbourne to Stewart on the east coast with plans to cruise from there to the keys and Bahamas. I have n...

Re: Dingy advise, hydrofoil?
I've used them on small stearn heavy craft (I think I was the reason it was stearn heavy) that were a little under-powered. They help raise the back of the boat, thrusting the bow down, helping you get on plane faster. The drawback is that they do so at the expense of top speed. I think the reason i...

Re: Need some Velvet drive help.
Todd, I listened to your video and I have to say that on my port engine, I've have a similar rattle at low RPMs when its cold. After I've ran them a little and I return to idle it goes away. I've changed the fluid a few times and never see any pieces. Over the past 8 years, I've often though about p...

Congrats. I've never taken on a project of that scale. Obviously a lesser man would have failed. Here's to many many years of enjoyment (on the water). Have fun now!

Re: Why the &*!@ own 2 boats?
2? I'm proud of myself for getting down to 4. My favorite of the four is the Trojan F36. I spoke to my father from the bridge the day he passed away. He wanted to be there, I wanted to be with him. It was only a few months earlier that we sat (under shrink wrap with sub zero temps in the middle of J...

Re: F36 Fuel Consumption Question
The numbers from my F36 as shown in the table from Oct 2008 runs GM 454s w/ 330HP ea. I believe that there was about 400 hrs on rebuilt blocks at the time I took those measurements (if you believe the story the broker told me when I bought the boat a couple years prior ). I'm pretty certain that the...

Re: Price Check on Boat Survey
Similar to BoatUS, I got a policy from Seaworthy (A Berkshire Hathaway Co). They allowed a self survey with photos. I got a declared value policy for $35K plus all the normal liability coverage, medical, and even winter freeze protection at an annual cost of $575.

Price Check on Boat Survey
I am changing insurance carriers and as part of the process I need to get a new survey. Last one was in 2006/7 and I paid $270. Best quote Im getting now in MN is $780 !! I told him I wasn't selling the boat, I just wanted a survey :D I thought in this economy there isn't any inflation going on. Jus...

Re: NoLand Engineering RS11
I have purchased and use the Noland RS11. Its makes a great engine interface. I use 1 RS11 to monitor both engines. I placed the RS11 next to the terminal screw pannel behind the lower helm. I run the NEMA-2000 network cable up to my flybridge and have two Lowrance displays mounted there. On one dis...

Re: Crappy old toilet to new Compact Raritan and Holding Ta
+1 on comments from Dave. Don't use poly vent. Use sanitation rated hose or over time, it will allow oder to leach. No dips in the line, always running up-hill and as Dave says, the larger the better. Next thought is I had my holding tank under the front birth in my F36 and found that if I did not p...

Re: Canvas Windows
I like this stuff. It seems to stay pliable longer as the temps get cold. It has a type of coating that is scratch resistant (which also makes it easier to sew). http://www.rochfordsupply.com/shop/Textiles/Clear_Vinyl/Strataglass/index.html They sell a matching conditioner that helps with long term ...
