Re: 1987 10 meter mid cabin complete restoration.

Thank you very much for the compliment! wish you the best of luck with your boat. just remember, a total overhaul is nothing more than a bunch of small project strung together! lol

Re: 1987 10 meter mid cabin complete restoration.

Jimmy, I actually painted my boat with awlgrip. I would recommend getting a quality buffer. I have a $200 porter cable version of this one http://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DWP849X-7-Inch-Variable-Polisher/dp/B004W1WGIC I have used the crap out of mine, its expensive but well worth the money. you need on...

Re: Rattling Velvet Transmission Topic

i would request that the idle rpm be set to specs while doing the tune up. im still amazed that i didn't have to tear the tranny apart to fix that noise. cant believe that raising the idle rpm reduced the rattle as much as it did.

Re: Looking for an upgrade...

my wife and I were also ruined early on in our boating career. After purchasing our 1st boat, a 1977 f28 trojan with a 12'3" beam, everything else seemed small in comparison. It all depends on what your looking for. my wife fell in love with the 10 meter mid cabin because of the additional slee...

Re: Crusader model 350 engine temp question?

Thanks Everyone! Sounds like I'm actually ok based on you input, thanks. I guess my first step will be to measure the actual engine temps with a laser and compare the temps with the actual gauges so I have a better idea of the real temps while at the helm.

Re: Crusader model 350 engine temp question?

Thanks Bob! I think ill feel better after checking everything with the laser. I was just a bit nervous being so close to 180.
are you able to manually adjust the temp needle to calibrate it?

Re: The Norwegian Trojan....again. (update)

what transmissions do you have? I just had a similar issue with my velvet drive transmissions. I had my engine idle set at 500 and my trans sounded like it had a bunch of loose parts grinding around inside it, heres a link to a video https://youtu.be/xlE-H8NQnhk I found out that 500 was too low. I r...

Re: Crusader model 350 engine temp question?

may have figured out the reason for the temp difference. I had switched the starboard manifold to riser gaskets with the correct "one" hole gasket instead of the three hole ones that i had originally used but I left the three hole on the port. im wondering if the port is a bit hotter becau...

Crusader model 350 engine temp question?

what engine temperature should I be reading on my gauges? my port (1st picture below) is running hotter than the starboard (second picture). the port is just shy of 180, in reading it as 175 to 178ish . the starboard is around 170ish? I plan on shooting the thermostat housing with a laser thermomete...

Re: shaft packing question

Thought I'd post an update of my shaft packing nightmare. I pulled the old packing (2 hrs old) and installed three new rings of 1/4 gfo packing on each shaft. I presses each ring in with a piece of pvc pipe and staggered the cuts. I turned the nut back on by hand and stopped before any resistance wa...

Re: Velvet Drive replace rebuild?

glad to hear you made out good. Congrats!
if you keep hearing something that sounds like extra loose parts rattling around in the trans at idle make sure your engine idle is at least 700 rpm. made a big difference on my boat.
