- don't try to wipe away excess sealer from the glass, it will smear. Wait until it cures then trim it with a blade This is good advice. +1 not squeezing all of the sealant out from under the glass, and for adding a second layer of sealant on the outside of the joint too. You can also apply good ma...

When I view posts, I cannot see the right side of the page without going to the bottom of the page and using the slider button (?) to navigate over to the right side of the page. However, when I'm on other pages in the forum, such as the index, or the FAQs where I tried to find the answer to my ques...

Surveyor recommendation needed in northern Ohio
Can anyone recommend a surveyor that works on Lake Erie halfway between Toledo and Cleveland? I need to survey a 36 foot twin gas vessel. Someone who can do both hull and engines would be ideal. Otherwise, someone who specializes in hull only or engines only would work too. Boroscoping capabilities ...

Who needs raw water strainers?
I looked at a boat today that had a raw water strainer on the air-conditioning water intake, but had no strainers on the engine cooling system -- raw water cooled, not freshwater cooled. I thought that was wee bit odd. Am I deluded in thinking they are necessary? What do you think? Since back when t...

this morning at 7am i went and saw one of the space shuttles atop a 747 taking it last trip along cocoa beach heading for the Smithonian. I can attest that it made it! I pulled the kids from school to go see it. If it is not raining here tomorrow I'm going to fly over to Dulles and get a shot as I ...

I did hear back last night. The broker asked for phone number so he could have one of the prior buyers call me. Okay, here's a question for you. How do I know that it is the previous buyer, and not the broker's buddy pretending to be a happy customer, ask for him to fax me a copy of the title to the...

Hello Stripermann2. I plan on keeping it at Colonial Beach, so that you can teach me how to work on boats! Okay, not really. I plan to keep it near Baltimore. Middle Riverish or something, kinda near Sir Aaron. Slips are reasonable (~$200/mo.), and it is 70 minutes from my house. Annapolis is pricie...

I have not done a survey, but I of course will before I become the owner. I intend to fly a surveyor that Sir Aaron of Baltimore, who I was fortunate to finally meet in person the other day, recommended down to look at the boat, rather than rely on a surveyor who is local and may be friendly with th...

Are they REALLY new engines? And more.....
So I made a few trips to look at Tricabs. The least-worst one I found purports to have "new" engines. I'm asking the seller hard questions about what that really means, but in the meantime, take a look at some pictures if you don't mind. The boat I'm looking at is at: http://www.yachtworld...

I am a big fan of that type of hose clamp, and use them a lot. They are much better than the worm-type clamps, but they have their shortcomings. If you go to the link and look closely, you'll see that each side of the clamp relies on two spot welds. I've seen bad spot welds break. For that reason, I...

Thanks for the comments, and please keep them coming, but stop right before you talk me out of it. When I computed boat ownership costs, I built $3600/year for fuel into the cost. Did you guys see my signature? I'm buying a boat because I need a less expensive hobby. No, really. My last to two discr...

My wife finally said of her own volition, go out and buy a boat. Well, I guess to keep my marriage together, I'll comply. Expect my level of postings to increase as I plea for your assistance. I believe in setting goals to help me move forward, so my next goal is to graduate to Sporadic User! I look...
