yeah, I did that aleady and you're right it does smell bad

I ordered 30' of hose and going to replace it all. I was able to order it direct from Sealand for under $7 a foot which is $3' less than West Marine.

I've got to do this 1st, it has all the telltale signs combined with age. I ordered the inline vent filter too.

no, I haven't gotten back to it yet but will...

over the next few days. I'm getting hauled out today. The mystery to me right now is the "soleniod" behind the helm that's connected to a terminal block with a bunch of stuff connected - one of them the windlass relay. I don't have 12v coming out, just ground. I'm going to take your advice...

just talked to Sealand and here's what they told me:

if the hoses are 20 years old, change them as they're way past life expectancy.
Do the mid cabins have a vent filter? If so, where is it?

He said to check that otherwise it's a good thing to add.

yeahm should have specified my location

I'm finding out that boats are nothing like cars, every one is different. Mine is just to the right of the helm. I have no access to the far side behind the helm. If a wire fell down, I don't know what I would do. I could see it but not be able to reach it. Can't really go up under the mid-cabin eit...

thanks, now I know where the vent goes.

I also elminated the macerator, it was burned out anyway. Would adding a filter only help the smell if you had the windows open and it came back INTO the cabin? My issue is after it's been closed up for a few hours. If I open everything, it becomes bearable but not 100%. Since I need to re-work the ...

Dennis, just re-bed both of my fixed lights last week

I think they were leaking for years but are dry now. I was going to get some new Lexan cut as well but realized that they have a curve when I pulled them out. I'm not sure if it needs to be molded that way or can be bent into place. Looks like it's 1/2 Lexan on mine. I really need to get two new one...

I meant to say ignition solenoid if that makes a difference

I have no idea what this thing does? It looks new too although stuff is pretty wel protected behind the helm. I'm going to see if I get 12v w/ the engines running, maybe I can narrow it down.

In the meantime, I'll move the windlass breaker to the 12v side and see if I get power up at the bow.

any windlass experts out there?

My boat came with a non-functioning Powerwinch 603. I removed it and connected it directly to a battery and it works. I then connected the switch to the battery was able to get it to pull line in and release in the down position. So far, so good.... Here's where I'm a little fuzzy. Two of the switch...

no problem, that helps.

the boat sat basically unused for a season. I pumped it out a couple of weeks ago and swear the smell got a little worse.

I didn't flush afterwards though or try the soapy water trick. I'm going to try the holding treatment suggestion now.

thanks

I think I have two issues, one Bob at Beacon solved for me!

After talking to Bob he said start with the fuel filters. I never saw the big inline filters because they were painted the engine color years ago. I changed both and the carb filters as well. It runs out great to 4k RPM's so problem solved. I still have this weird coolant issue though. The engines r...

vacu-flush - holding tank location on a 10m mid cabin?

another nagging issue that I would like to sort out before winter. My boat has an unbearable smell while it's closed up. Not too bad when it's open but no way you could sleep on it w/the windows closed. It's an original (20 years) vacu-flush that's functional. It pumps fine and the toilet holds wate...

thanks, I ran a bead all around the base of the windshield..

and caulked the radar arch last week. Next "test" is Saturday. Hoping I have it fixed because it's coming out this weekend and would like to have it resolved and not carry into the spring launch.

mid cabin - port side leak (rainwater)

I fixed all of my porthole leaks but the port side is leaking pretty much the whole area from the locker next to the stairs to end of the dinette table. I caulked the entire perimeter of the boat between the rub-rail and the fiberglass but that didn't do it. I re-bed some of the railings but need to...
