Re: Drive advice needed - Starboard Velvet Drive failed
Would it not be more economical to just get the right trans. I got these two drives for free and will be putting them in along with my uncle. So if its possible and will work if I change props, I'm thinking it might be a good option to go. with that said, based on vicprop calculator props at 16x12 ...

Re: Drive advice needed - Starboard Velvet Drive failed
Thank you Bob.
Would that require opposing props?
If I could use these would be great. Would the pressure plate be interchangeable?

Re: Drive advice needed - Starboard Velvet Drive failed
Hi All, Barrie has been kind enough to offer up his velvet drives for me to utilize. there is a ratio difference, I'm wondering your thoughts if I go from 1:91:1 to 1:52:1 My existing velvet drives are: 10-17-008 Barrie's drives are: AS12-72C (10-18) can I swap both? would I need to change my props?...

Re: 1987 F36 Tri-Cabin - prop sizing
Hi All, keep coming back to prop sizing. I found a couple brass props that I can get my hands on that are 22x22 4 blades. I'm looking for more efficient hull speed, and cruising speed. I'm sure I would have to get these adjusted, but wondering the forum's thoughts on what best to go with. my drives ...

Re: Our 1987 Trojan F36 Tri-Cabin - Before and After
Hi All, looking forward to the season! Soooo close. Thought I would add a couple updates that I did last year before the season ended. Upgraded the cooktop, the old one cracked. 20170704_155047.jpg Whale Seaward Princess 2 Burner Cooktop 120V Pencil Edge 2247-5100 Upgraded the galley faucet with hig...

Re: Our 1987 Trojan F36 Tri-Cabin - Before and After
I'm looking to redo all my canvas and add a radar arch. Do you happen to know how your boat got her arch? Good day, sorry been a while since I have been on the forum. but I'm back now that boating season is just around the corner. Unfortunately I'm not sure where the Arch came from, we bought the b...

Re: Drive advice needed - Starboard Velvet Drive failed
Got some feedback from my marina, thoughts welcome: They are saying that it's not likely the dampener as there is no noise from broken parts inside. Is that true? What is a reasonable price to refurbish a drive? They are quoting me $2500 CDN + removal and install which I think they are going to esti...

Re: Drive advice needed - Starboard Velvet Drive failed
Do you have a manual for your transmissions? If not goggle it. Before you start removing the transmission, Check the trouble shooting guide for this issue Contact the factory and talk to them about the problem Have you verified the shift cable and cam on the transmission is actually engaging the tr...

Re: Drive advice needed - Starboard Velvet Drive failed
Tranny could be pulled back if prop shaft coupler is undone and separated. It will be difficult will need a monkey on one side. If pulled back may be able to see if it is the dampener, but remember you have a bell housing that limits your viewing which I had to remove to9 get the flywheel and dampe...

Re: Drive advice needed - Starboard Velvet Drive failed
Any chance the dampener can be replaced with Drive pulled back and not removing it? If removing it will it have to be hoisted through the sunbathing roof? Any suggestions on part number needed? That seems like the most likely cause. Again I appreciate all the advice, want to get it back up an runnin...

Re: Drive advice needed - Starboard V-Drive failed
Thank you for the info. You are right, velvet drive. Abbreviation doesn't work in this case :-) The shaft and prop is in place. It doesn't shift into forward or reverse. The shifter moves relatively easily. How heavy is the unit? How hard is it to replace the dampener? Once removed how can I tell it...

Re: Our 1987 Trojan F36 Tri-Cabin - Before and After
Have you had a chance to take a run with it yet? With it being extra long, how well does it clear your wake / stern wave? I have seen some boats with massive platforms, and have always wondered about them being too long and getting hit by the stern wave rising underneath it and put huge strain on f...

They have your boat on their site: http://lescompositesmabernard.com/trojan-36-1987/ I am rebuilding part of our swim platform due to captain error  , but we may want a larger one sometime down the road. Yours looks nice! Thank you! Hadn't checked their site. I had them install it on top of o...

Re: Our 1987 Trojan F36 Tri-Cabin - Before and After
I forgot to upload the new swim platform that we had installed in May 2016, there was a delay and size correction required. But it finally arrived and was installed. It's awesome, such a difference. As you can see, we went from a 20/24" deep platform to a 48" deep composite platform. At 1...
