Don't know if this applies to all triflys but the vintage I'm thinking of which had Mercs took it's 12 volt power for lights etc from the port ignition switch. The engine harness must be hooked up. This model had a hood over the gauges that tilted up for access behind the gauges. There is a fuse blo...

If the pump is in good shape, and the switch is deffective, then the pump will try to continue doing its thing and pressurize the system. If the switch is not telling it to shut off, you should hear it labouring as it continues to fight against the pressure in the system. When you turn a faucet on, ...

Good to have a switch for manual operation, float switches do fail. The only thing I would caution is that you not get a set up that has an "OFF" position (auto - off - manual). I've seen far too many older boats where these were accidently toggled to "off". NOT GOOD. Also a good...

There are insurance companies that specialize in other areas and aren't very savvy when it comes to marine coverage. As such, they don't put much wieght on the need for a current survey (that is slowly changing). The trick with these is that you have to be savvy about what you need in marine coverag...

Not what you want to hear, but personally, I'd be pulling her out of the water like the others suggested. Things seldomly go as expected and rarely end up being the five minute job you planned for. You also mentioned that the two bottom bolts were loose as well. At this point, I'd question the integ...

WS washers are becoming more and more popular on larger pleasure craft. Typically, they`re plumbed off the fresh water system under the galley sink where they also install a shut-off valve. But some systems do have a reservoir bottle. There are a few companies making these now for pleasure craft. Ve...

Paul, I don't think the in-line filter you describe is standard. The type you're describing is aftermarket, probably automotive. It wasn't standard in '73, or '69 when mine was built. The originals have threaded ends on them to accept threaded fittings on metal lines. I find these filters a little h...

CORRECTION: the resistance reading is taken at the sender from the sender post to ground, with the sender wire off, not from the sender wire to ground.

As Ready said, there should be no reason to keep the battery on charge, providing you have nothing but the genny hooked up to it. It should keep it's charge unless it's a bad battery or you have a wiring issue. If you have an "AUTO" start feature, my understanding is power from the battery...

If the connections at the gauge and the sending unit look good including ground wire, try this: - remove the sender wire from the sender at the tank (typically center post) - jump it to ground. - turn the key to the "ON" position If you get a full sweep at the gauge ("FULL") with...

Typically smart chargers see a conflict and will not charge if another charging source is detected. It's stated that the current charger is older although I suspect it also sees a conflict hense the disconnected charging circuit by a previous owner.
