Re: Installing Stern Thruster

I got the tunnel installed on the transom and today installed the motor and glassed in the support for the motor. I have to run the battery cables and finish up on the control cables including a wireless control which is due in tomorrow.

Re: Bimini bother

I have put a Hard to Top on an F32 and now my President 41. I like them. They are slow to respond to the web site requests, so I call them to get a price. They are very easy to install. If you get keder strips around the top it is easy to fabricate side curtains to complete the enclosure.

Re: Installing Stern Thruster

I started installing my stern thruster today. I cut the 8" hole in the transom. I have about a 1/4" to 3/8" camber from side to side that I had to deal with. I fitted the tunnel to the transom with thickened epoxy between the thruster and the transom to fill the gap on each side. I co...

Re: Automatic Fire Extinguish System

We bought our 41' President in Virginia in September 2015. The halon had not been checked in many years. It is a very large system, I forget right now how big, but the current replacement would cost about $1500+. The surveyor dinged it on not being currently inspected. Due to distance from home, I a...

Re: Looking at a 1973 F32 in the morning. Little Help Please

We had a 1978 F32. Not sure exactly what is different on a 1973, but from what I have seen in general, the big 3 things that go wrong with F series boats are soft decks in the bow and gunnel areas, rusting original fuel tanks and rotted stringers. You can fix all of these if you are willing to spend...

Re: Any Boat Presents This Year?

My stern thruster for the President is on order and will be here soon. We put a new hardtop on the flybridge and have ordered EZ2CY for the front panels of the enclosure that should ship this week or next. Started making the other sides of the enclosure today. Bestboatwire.com will make custom batte...

Re: Portable generator questions

The reasons they are unsafe are many, off the top of my head, carbon monoxide poisioning, gas fumes getting into the boat from either refueling the generator or the generator tipping over, getting burned on a hot exhaust and probably more that I am not thinkin about right now. Carbon monoxide poisio...

Re: "Squirreling in" for the winter

You might look into shrink wrapping the boat for insulation. It will keep a lot of the blowing air out of the boat and help shed snow if you do get snow. You can install a frame with a storm door for easy access.

Re: Planning My Haul Out and Motor Pull (Update: Motors are out with Pics)

The yard where the boat went over was also packed gravel and is used as a commercial boat storage yard. They said that it had never happened before, but stuff happens. Just something to consider.

Re: Planning My Haul Out and Motor Pull (Update: Motors are out with Pics)

They block my 41 in 3 places under the keel with about 4' long timbers in each spot. Also on the ground you might want to put some plywood under the jack stands (can't tell if there is any in the photos). There was a boat here that went over when the jack stand sank into the ground after a very heav...

Re: Engine Winterization

We are just winterizing our President with 225 Lehmans. I used a Sea Flush adapter that replaces the top of the strainer temporarily. It worked great. I put 5 gallons of -100 degree antifreeze through the first engine and we got antifreeze coming out of the exhaust. Checked the freeze protection wit...

Re: toilet vent hose

Several issues with the 1/2" corrugated hose as a vent line. First, it is permeable to the sewage gasses and will let the smell out into the interior of the boat. The corrugated hose is not very substantial and does not hold up well. It cracks and then leaks. Also 1/2" is too small for ade...

Re: swim platform holes

When I am working with a cored deck or transom, I drill the hole oversize and then take an allen wrench that I cut down to about 3/8" and chuck the allen wrench into a drill. Putting the allen wrench in the hole and running the drill reams out the core surrounding the hole. If I an working on a...

Re: Raw water alarm saves the day

Bear, I did not get to install them when I went to the boat in September, had to spend days prepping for Hurricane Joaquin in case it had come ashore. It fortunately stayed offshore. However I only got about half of the work done that I had planned on doing. The install of the Borel alarms looks qui...
