Re: Bilge pumps...where to install
Now how about switches Built in automatic or the external float. Is one more trouble free/reliable than the other The one that I kept coming back to for reliability was: http://www.tefgel.com/contain.php?param=pumpswitch_price. You can sometimes find better prices for it from industrial suppliers t...

Re: Trojan 10 Meter Express purchase. Advice ??
We used to boat in your area when we had a trailer boat, but the Trojan is off the Rhode River south of Annapolis. We spent many a day anchored in Matawoman Bay.
I shudder to think how much it would cost to run down to the mouth of the Potomac and then back up to Occoquan!

Re: Bilge pumps...where to install
Well, the smaller bilge pump thinking may not be entirely true. Almost all bilge pump float switches start at 2" of water and stop at 3/4". Yes, you could run the pump until it is below the strainer level, but the water in the tube will still backflow to the bilge. The very best pump I ha...

Re: Bilge pumps...where to install
Do any of you have a diaphragm pump in use? That seems like an interesting choice for the pump draining the lowest location in a boat, especially with GFO packing, since it would allow getting more of the water out of the bilge or keel and allow you to have a very dry bilge. The downside is cost and...

low944, you seem to be just down the road from us. Where do you have your boat slipped?

Re: Micron CSC issues with underwater metals and wood
I am currently experimenting with the Rustoleum zinc paint. As prowlersfish mentioned, it appears to be virtually identical to Petit's Prop Coat Barnacle Barrier at 1/3 the price. Last spring, I put it on my props and shafts except where the zincs are and the boat has been in the water since then. U...

Re: Oil & Water Restoration Thread
We have a 30A shore power connection on each side of the cockpit in identical locations. Since we bring both power cords in on the starboard side at our slip, we end up with one of the cords running along the cockpit floor under the sliding door. That will be addressed along with a galvanic isolator...

Mine are stainless, though they were painted with bottom paint when I got the boat.

Re: Oil & Water Restoration Thread
Our F36 has Romex on all the distribution circuits and I suspect it is original. Everything I can see up to the mains is wired with stranded, but that is about all. We actually have two metal panel boxes with Masonite covers on ours: AC Panel.jpg Like oilandwater, a new distribution panel and wiring...

Re: Oil & Water Restoration Thread
The port inboard stringer is soft about a foot forward of the transom. It looks like the board securing the rudder post allowed leakage into the inner wood and the rest was history. I would imagine there is a large amount of force exerted on that area due to rudder movement. One of my tasks this sp...

Re: Project "Tri Fly"
will soon be homeless for the summer if I don't get the boat in the water in a couple months Now that is real incentive! I promised our family that we would do a week long trip on the Bay this summer as a graduation present for our girls who are four years apart. When one graduated from 8th grade a...

Re: Oil & Water Restoration Thread
Looks like you are moving right along! The genset appears to be fairly new and in good shape. That is a big plus. I am curious about which of the stringers needs repair. The port outboard one looks to be rough in the area where the backer board for the strut is. On our boat, it is the port inboard s...

Re: Depth and 360 degree imaging below surface F36 tricabin
I suspect that forward looking sonar that will give you an accurate return 1,000' ahead of your boat in shallow water is not likely to happen anytime soon. There would be too much scatter in the signal that would get reflected back and make resolving targets very difficult. On the other hand, the fo...
