I'm with Paul. The boom truck is the right way to go. Ask around locally among boat service people and contractors. A few years ago, when I was getting ready to re-power, I asked a local guy who services moorings if he know someone with a crane to remove my engine. He referred me to a local steel fa...

A few more bits of advice. 1) Change the oil before putting her up for the winter. 2) I add fuel stablizer to the tank and run the engine long enough to get it up to the engine. (I actually add a strong dose of fuel stabilizer into the water separator to make sure it gets into the carb.) In the days...

Aaron, Check out this thread that shows a photo of the original rudder assembly, removed from my F-26. http://www.trojanboats.net/wforum/viewtopic.php?t=921 It's not possible to drop the rudder through the stufing box with the tiller arm attached. There is also a safety collar that is pinned to the ...

When I first read the question, I thought you were referring to the pully damper. Do you mean the damper plate that couples the flywheel to the transmission? I think you need to identify the engine, not just the transmission. I never replaced a broken one, but I swapped the damper plate from my old ...

Disconnect the shaft/transmission coupler and rotate the shaft relative to the transmission. The two flanges should remain parallel and concentric. You can check parallelism (angular in the 2nd article below) with feeler gauges between the flange faces at different angular positions. You can check c...

I can't justify it, myself, but I avoid manuvering in reverse in tight quarters. A friend of mine has an Albin 28 single screw with a factory installed thruster, which he swears by. It makes backing into a slip much easier. Here is a website you might want to look at for some articles. http://www.sh...

I'm not surprised at the debate over this topic. It seems like everywhere I've seen this discussed, there are disagreements. Here is a direct quote from the velvet drive transmision owner's manual. You can read it for yourself here: http://mysite.verizon.net/vze6mxo8/downloads/Velvet_Drive_Inst_Manu...

There are some knowlegable people there who are happy to provide advice. Here is...

You can buy a factory re-manufactured 318 marine longblock for just under $2K. I took this route a few years ago, and did most of the work myself. I hired a mechanic for about 10 hours for some of the critical assembly areas where I had no experience, like sealing the circulator pump and timing cove...

Here is a link to a bunch or literature: http://www.trojanboats.net/TB%20Catalogs.htm The scans aren't the best quality, but they will give you something to look at. I've owned a '75 F26 for four seasons now. Just about everything mechanical or electrical has been rebuilt or replaced. You can be tem...
