Re: Lunaire AC Recharge
Before you the tap into the system, you should ensure it's not something else like restricted raw water flow due to a full strainer or fouled intake, decreased water volume due to same or a failing pump, or a dirty evaporator that needs to be cleaned. You should also flush the condenser (raw water s...

Re: Helm control replacemens
Agreed Paul, dual controls aren't meant for dual station as you have to disengage the shift mechanism at the control if you just want to rev up in neutral. If I understand you correctly, you have a single shift lever on port side of helm, a dual throttle in the middle, and a single shift on starboar...

Re: Great Lakes water levels
Getting all kinds of really bad impacts. There's a big false sense of security because of the high water levels. I guess most folks think since the levels are so high, they won't hit anything. The problem is the structures that were clearly visible above water that are now below water and not marked...

Re: Teak Deck Underlayment
There are pros and cons to encapsulation. The con is as CM mentioned; if water ever gets in, it'll never get out on its own. Having said that, if encapsulating is done correctly, proper fastening techniques adhered to, and regular maintenance and inspection performed, you shouldn't have that problem...

Re: Teak Deck Underlayment
I'm assuming by the vintage that this is an all wood boat? Regardless, the best thing to use is epoxy. In fact, it's best to lay the teak down into thickened epoxy without using permanent fasteners. Screws and washers are used in the gaps between the strips to hold them in place while the epoxy cure...

Re: Trailering a Trojan? No bow eye!?
When transporting larger vessels with no bow eyes, haulers always use straps secured to the deck cleats. Tie two sets to each bow cleat; one going forward to prevent backward movement, and one back to prevent forward movement. One at each stern cleat, and if you have cleats mid ship, use them too. T...

Re: Raw water pump for cruisair reverse-cycle system
I suspect more that it was simply the pump's time. The pumps are overload protected so I think it just reached its end of life, or you blew the bracket o-ring, or the bracket wasn't fully secured and water got in. I suspect you'd have to be sitting in the mud to ingest enough of it to cause a coolin...

Re: Phasor Generator - No response
If you can't find a reset, start with the simple stuff like listening if the starter solenoid is clicking when you try to start the unit. If it doesn't click, put a meter on it to see if you're getting 12 volts when you activate the start button. If you have 12 volts there, it's a solenoid or starte...

Re: 10 Meter transom flex
The problem with flexing where hardware like bolts penetrate the area is that the more flexing there is the faster the seal will fail and allow water in. Depending on conditions, this could take years or less time than you think. In areas that are cored, this is not good. I've seen the results of to...

Re: Both upper/lower Oil gages pegged
A shorted sender or a sender wire short to ground of the will cause them to peg. Some apps have a separate sender for each station and others have a single dual station sender.

Shoot, I just got rid of one of those! Unfortunate incident but great thread. And yes, I think most of us have been there at one time or another. Even the most experienced captains have bad days, then throw in some current, a distraction, wind, etc. and it makes a bad day even worse.

Re: complete loss of steering
You haven't provided any detail about the model of boat or brand of steering so it's difficult to say whether there's easy or poor accessibility which plays a large role in final labour costs. Your home port isn't listed so we can't figure in mechanical door rates; is it $75 per hour, $90, $125, etc...

Re: AC raw water pump
.....It's a March AC-5C-MD 1000 GPH 115V. Kool Air makes a replacement pump PM1000 that says it's better because it can run dry and is thermally protected.... In your case it doesn't matter but for others, pretty sure those pumps are not recommended in a gasoline engine compartment anymore. If that...
