Re: overheating 440.
Hi there way we go, great info, your theory makes sense, basically what i've been thinking also. Today didn't go so well though. I decided to check the wye fitting upstream of the seacock, since I never had eyes on that piece, except the outside. I removed it, & it had a fair amount of roughness...

Re: water flow
Oh yes, I did replace both the impellers, & I agree that there is no circulating pump as we know it on the engine. Just a note though, I was reading/studying the cooling section of the manual & noticed they were talking about a circulating pump in the raw water cooling section. That threw me...

Re: water flow
Sorry, Prowlerfish, missed your question about the pump. Yes, it is the dual lmpeller, 4 hose pump, & I do have the intakes on the bottom, & discharge on the top. Thanks for the interest.

Re: overheating 440.
Good morning Way we go. thanks for the reply. L do have a heat gun I've been using. For a system that seems so simple, it sure is making me crazy. I t seems the heads, manifolds, & risers stay cool. But, the hose that runs under the engine seems like it's boiling after a while of running. Today,...

overheating 440.
Hi there folks again. Unfortunately, i haven't resolved my engine overheating problem. I've done about everything i can think of to resolve it, to little or no success. I'm just about ready to remove a couple of soft plugs from the block for a look inside. I used the 'Barnacle Buster" in it, bu...

Re: water flow
Hi everyone, well, today was a sort of a research day. I checked with my engine shop to ask about boiling some engine pieces, they don't boil, they bake them with high heat in an oven like a kiln. Next, they are bead blasted to clean them up. Then I went to the boat & took the ends off 1 manifol...

Re: water flow
Thanks RW, my boat is raw water cooled, so no heat exchanger, but there are 2 oil coolers, 1 for engine oil, 1 for trans oil. I have not found any debris from them, . With everything I've checked so far, I'm really suspecting clogged manifolds and or elbows which is surprising. Today, I'm going to c...

Re: water flow
Thanks Prowlerfish & Capt. Maniac, thanks so much for the pump diagrams, I didnt see your message soon enough to tell you I do have the original manuals, so thanks for taking the time & interest for that. To answer the other suggestion, I have checked the oil coolers, which are clear, I can ...

water hose location on Sherwood double pocket pump
Hi all, Last fall I acquired a 1972 F36, 440 engines. The boat was on the hard 3 yrs. & I was permitted to start the engines, but only ran them briefly. This spring before launch I installed new impellers in both dbl. pocket Sherwood raw water pumps, raw water cooled. This spring I thought the e...

Hello everyone, it's been awhile, since i've been working hard on the boat. She is a 1972 F36, which i bought last fall, just in time to store for the winter. The boat had been on the hard 3 yrs. before i got it. Before I bought it, I was permitted to fire the engines up, which I did, but didn't run...

Wow, just saw this post re: starting. I have an old Silverton I'm selling with 318's that has that same issue. Hadn't found the problem, so hoping this is it. Incidentally, reason for selling, I've purchased a 1972 F36 for my new boat. Have loved this model since it came out, took this long to get o...

Hi to all, I am just hours away from actually owning a Trojan boat, again. In the 70's I had a 1967, 36' Trojan Sea Voyager. Great boat, but the wood maintenance caught up with me & I had to sell it. Well, this Sunday we made a deal on a 1972 F36 cruiser. For its age, it's in amazingly good shap...
