Re: 1988 10M-mid cabin battery sizes

Here's what I wound up doing. I don't have a generator (and don't have a real need for one) so I added a 3k inverter running off four 6v golf cart batteries. Two are inside the factory battery box along with the two group 31 start/house batteries (I shouldn't have called them start only). Those I up...

Re: 1988 10M-mid cabin battery sizes

I reconfigured mine. My start batteries are both 31's and I have two 6v (27) house batteries in between them facing side to side. Those connect to my other 6v batts which are located in a new box behind the factory one. I'm pretty sure the 31's will fit w/o making any changes. I had to modify the co...

Re: 89 mid cabin performance

Harris, that new boat looks great! For the mid cabin, I have years of video showing fuel burn/speed at different RPM's (both 454's and now my 8.1's). I posted that before, let me see if I can dig it up. Yes, 4,200 is ideal, 4,000 is probably close enough. The thing with the mid cabin is once you get...

Re: 89 mid cabin bilge leak

sorry, confusing you with someone else. Tell Mike I said hi :D

Being in CT, I just had to wait a couple of weeks for the next rain. I would put the hose right on the horizontal parts where it bolts to the hull. That corner near the side window was where mine leaked and then ran down.

Re: 89 mid cabin bilge leak

Mike, If your Stb locker is getting wet, I'm willing to bet it coming from the radar arch. I chased that one for a long time and was finally able to see it during a hard rain. It was a lot, always soaked. The only way to really fix it is to remove the arch which I need to do anyway because of rot on...

Scott,

No, I never did a final video but all I did was paint it (roll and tip method). The repairs have held up great.

Re: 1988 10M Mid Cabin Sliding Glass Door

Scott, Yes, I did it a few years ago and replaced the rollers which I got from Bob. As I recall, if you remove all of the acorn nuts at the top of the door it should lift out. I think you also have to remove something similar at the bottom as well... maybe not. Bob can tell you if you wind up orderi...

Re: 89 mid cabin tachometer flutter

Mike, For what it's worth, I installed the exact same distributors and on my 454's and the tachs worked fine. Off topic, I put together a new spare parts "kit" (Ignition module, etc.) for these distributors but sold the engines. $75 shipped and it's yours. I also have a full set of Int'l g...

Re: Nav lights pop breaker at main panel

Not for your specific model. I've done a lot of rewiring on my boat and I haven't had to replace an entire circuit. Almost every wiring issue has been within a few feet of either end.

Re: Are my risers and elbow going bad?

Are you basing this on the gauges? I would double check with an IR gun at various points to confirm. 140-150 is actually a little low, 170-180 at cruise is perfect. The exhaust elbows shouldn't be too hot to touch, mine are 110-120ish if I recall. I would baseline both engines with a gun and hit the...

Re: Trojan 10m mid cabin 86 front hatch

The four latches are through bolted from the factory. Yours aren't? I had a local place cut a new piece of white Lexan, it's just a square so it's an easy job. Also, you can eliminate the two side latches if you want. After some testing (including a hurricane), the front two are all that's needed as...

Re: Nav lights pop breaker at main panel

That sounds like an overheating condition caused by corroded wiring. I've had to go back a couple of feet on a couple of circuits on my boat to get to good copper. While not a fix, installing LEDS if the wiring is marginal is a good idea anyway. I hate those nav lights on the best of circuits becaus...

our Yacht club has no live aboard clause as well but a lot of people do it. Nobody is going to complain about it though, it's good to know people are there 24x7.

Re: Garmin AP install on mid cabin or Hynautic in general?

For future searches, I wound up removing the Hynautic Reservalve and upgrading the helm pump (I have both old ones for sale). With the pressurized Hynautic system, there is some question with Garmin as they specify running at a lower pressure (10 PSI max). Seastar thinks this is a bad idea and even ...

Re: Garmin AP install on mid cabin or Hynautic in general?

Thanks guys, here’s what I am dealing with. A couple of questions, I’ll give Seastar a call tomorrow as well: 1) does the AP care “where” I make connections? On the return line, I thought I could replace the fitting on the Reservalve with a T but there’s not enough room. I think I’ll need to install...
