Yep, I can hold my hand on my engines too when they're at operating temp. The only heat issue I've ever had was three summers ago when the weeds grew so abundantly. I had to take a rip saw (electric) and cut my old fridge up into pieces in order to get it out. Sehord I think those 454's, without a reduction gear will rev out top power at around 3800..... whereas a 350 cid, can get up to around 4400 rpm.
