Re: Mid cabin 1988 repower

Suggest you run the valves, replace the timing belt and tensioner while the Yanmars are out.

simple, easy and NOT EXPENSIVE and the parts are available through Yanmar or Toyota dealers or on Amazon/Ebay.

Re: Mid cabin 1988 repower

Didn't use the Trojan factory mounts or plates at all.

My front mounts included heavy wood blocks, as I recall.

Here's a 2006 photo of the mounting system used

Re: inclinometer - correct way to measure running angle?

Hi Bob, I'm inserting responses into your text for clarity. What's the correct way to measure the running angle? I saw Bob's post that the Internationals run around 5.5%, essentially uphill. Should the gauge be set to zero as a starting point? At rest, my boat is pretty close to level, looks to be a...

Re: 10M Express what is the best prop?

Interesting, the extra strut and the V-strut. I wonder if Trojan did that because of the big block or a change after the first year or 2? The photo is of a 1983 (actually a 1982 hull) with 2 struts per shaft (factory struts were 1.25") One thought on the shafts is you have no more torque on th...

Re: 10M Express what is the best prop?

these photos are from 2005, BEFORE the refit to diesel. I have the original factory order paperwork on this boat, and can confirm she came from Lancaster with big block 454 Crusaders. I sent these struts back to John for resale, after the refit was completed, as I ended up going to 1.75" shafts...

Re: 10M Express what is the best prop?

FYI The EXPRESS has longer shafts and TWO struts per side Midcabin has shorter shafts and ONE strut per side Regardless of what's in there now you can make a choice: smaller props spinning faster or bigger props spinning slower... Attached below is the flo scan results of my 4 blade props with the g...

Re: Mid cabin 1988 repower

I do not know the size, sorry.

Also we bonded and bolted a pair (one per side) of flat aluminum plate to the stringers to better spread the torsional load from the diesels engine mounts.

Re: Mid cabin 1988 repower

Today's low displacement/high RPM diesels will live long lives with proper maintenance and CORRECT PROPPING Any diesel will suffer premature wear and, yes Virginia, early death if overpropped. Suggest taking your time with prop choice. Call in the experts. It will surely pay dividends in engine long...

Re: 10m mid cabin - Crusader 8.1's initial impression

It is interesting that the fuel burn is nearly flat throughout the 2,800-3,600 RPM range.

I suspect a tweak in the props will yield more improvement than you speculate.

Re: 10M Express what is the best prop?

if that's the case suggest you replace the gears with the correct ratio for the express

Then install the correct props for the express

The bigger diameter wheels will result in far better efficiency, power and economy

Re: Mid cabin 1988 repower

The EXPRESS setup is far different than the MID CABIN Have you confirmed these will fit re: height, width and shaft angle? These engines are taller and longer than the factory 454's We used downangle ZF gears On the EXPRESS the shaft between the trans & shaft log is a good bit shorter The beauty...
