I spent the weekend painting the window frames and I replaced all of the port side glass. For some unknown reason, all four pieces of window glass were cracked on the port side of the boat when we bought it. This project has always been on the list, but has ranked as "cosmetic" on the priority list.
I primed with self etching primer and painted with brightsides gloss black, I also painted the rub rail base in satin black brightsides. What a huge difference in apperance when you walk up to the boat.
I replaced the glass with tempered in lieu of laminated, all 4 pieces, tinted in bronze, polished edges and tempered 258.00.
I must say IMHO that the H frame plasitc thingy sucks, who thought up this half a$$ed way of installing a boat window, its like a shower door!
Looks good... I need to do the same.
I notice that the SS strips on the aft edge of fixed pieces look like they are missing.....
Am I correct and are you going to put them back on or has the glass thickness changed too much?

I removed the stainless hand rails on the aft angle frames and the side center supports to sand, prime and paint, I haven't put them back on yet because I plan to put another coat of paint on the exterior of the window frames.
I Just thought of this, but, when I had the glass out, I noticed that the forward and aft "window frames" are screwed in, has anyone ever removed these frames? if so, was it difficult?
I'd love to take them out and have them sand blasted and powder coated but I really dont want to tear them up trying to get them out.
I'm not sure if mine is the same, but I took a good look at mine Saturday and came to the conclusion that pulling my frames is going to be very difficult or time consuming. I was able to get a look under the frame and it appears the glass has to be removes to get to the bottom screws. Even if it's not the same it may be the same concept design. Mine looks like a project for sure.

Boy those look great, mine are loose now ready for the extrication. I have purchased new "plastic" dual channel "E" rails and may do the glass as well, now that I have seen yours. Removing and reinstalling without doubt is tough. I am going to use a drum sander to make the corners bend, I think that is how Trojan did it?

i agree that the H channels are not the best idea and i believe that trojan was the only manufacturer to use this concept. i remember bob telling me that these extrusions were custom designed. it does, however, make getting the glass in and out easy. well, all things considered, easier than the standard E tracks. looking at my tri cabin salon and aft state room windows, i have no clue as to how one even replaces these should they need to be.
getting to the painting of the rub rail and frame. did you brush this on with out thinning the paint? as you are aware, the aft state room window frame on my boat is looking rather sad and i'd like to spruce that up a bit. i'd also like to do what you did for the rub rail. did you tape all that off so the line is razor sharp? will bullfrog tape work?
again, GREAT job and she looks amazing. how many folks walk by and think she was made in 1977? not many i'd guess. timeless design one would say, and always a head turner.
