Fixing cabin wall vinyl F-32

Post by Diverted Income »

Gotta fix the vinyl in the cabin. It isn't in bad shape just all wrinkled and loose on the forward wall panel in the cabin. Appears that the rails need come off on the sides to pull the side panels so I can get to the edges of the forward panel. Any tricks to this?
Thanks!

We did our 78 and it is just a bunch of screws down the sides of the rails and the trim on the front bulkhead....now the screws if original brass are probably frearson type which look like phillips but take a different bit if you want to reuse them.Be careful as previous owners may have glued things!!!
Be careful with the panels as they need to bend slightly to get out and in,oh there was a piece on each side at the top aft where these panels meet the hanging lockers. The front around the anchor locker is glued and stapled ....you will see. Hope you were talking about the v berth.

Before I got a frearson drive, I used a one size smaller phillips with good results.
I needed a less expensive hobby, so I bought a boat!

You mentioned Frearson drives in another thread, which reminded me that I still had not bought any, so I ordered them. When I was working on the boat last week, I would have been stuck without them, so a big thanks for the reminder!!!

We didn't replace the vinyl. Pulled the panels off and fixed the wrinkled front. Stretched and used some 3M 77. We did re-cover the lower side panels with fabric and made a new front pad where at the Vee. Next time we will either replace the vinyl or at least pull it off and add 1/4 foam rubber behind it. Ultimately that is what is causing the wrinkling as it is just falling apart. Not a bad job at all.
