F32 sliding door lock

Post by dab62 »

Hello all. On my new to me F32, the rod that locks the sliding door has come loose, thus preventing the lock rod from going into the frame. I don’t see any way to gain access to repair it. I had a locksmith look at it. He said the only way to fix it was to remove the door, which I cannot see how to do. Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I can't think of any reason to remove the door . I agree photos would help " lock rod going into the frame is not sounding right to me . I sure I am misunderstanding .

I don’t have any pics at the moment. When you turn the lock, there is a rod that goes up through the door frame, then goes into a hole in the upper track to secure the door. I spoke with Bob yesterday, and he thinks I should be able to access it by taking the lock out. Thanks.

That is quite different from the typical patio door type latch on our boat and other F boats I have seen. When you have a chance, I would like to see what it looks like, especially since it sounds like a more secure locking system.

@ Waywego: I probably won’t be going down this weekend due to this lovely spring we’re having. (Snow showers! Really! ) But I’ll try to get some pics the following weekend. @stripermann: It’s an ‘87. Maybe it was added by the po???

To remove the door, you remove the Phillip screws along the bottom sill plate that the salon door rests on. (they go in horizontally) Once these screws, (may 5-6 of them) are removed, you tilt the door outwards with the framing from the bottom and remove. Takes less than 5 minutes...

If I go down to my boat this weekend, I'll refresh my memory about the lock assembly and let you know.
