About to purchase, looking for pointers

Post by Anderso8623 »

Hello all! I am soon to be new to the Trojan community. I am looking at a 1977 F30 sport fisher. It has the twin Merc 228s and seems to be sound all the way around. Is there common issues that I should be looking for other than the typical stuff. Is there something this boat is known for? Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the input. All seems to check out. I plan to get the survey done before I purchase. Deposit is down and those are the next steps. All in all, the boat is clean..and not the "clean because I had it detailed to show to customers" where every nook and cranny was high polished; rather the I kept it clean for 40 years and maintained it well.

I was shocked to see exposed wood motor mounts/stringers but looked and felt good. They passed the screwdriver test, no holes were poked in it. Has anyone ever sealed them with glass? I though that may not be a bad idea.

I once saw an old 1970’s Chris Craft with exposed stringers that weren’t glassed on the top half. However, those things were made of pure mahogany or some other hardwood and were solid. They don’t make them like they used to.
