Changing Carburetors

I have been having troubles with my carbs, I admit from neglect. The person that rebuilt my engines before I purchased the boat replaced the Rochester Carbs with Holley 2 barrels.

My question... do I rebuild the Holly's for $300+ or go back to the original Rochesters for almost the same price. I think I would like to get rid of the spacers and other crap he installed to get the Holley's to fit and bring the engine back to spec.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Part of the equation is the fuel line. Looked at changing to hollies when my Qjets needed work. One problem with switching is that hard fuel line from pump would need reworked. If yours would need re-re-worked, be sure to factor in that time and cost in ur decision.

I rebuilt my Qjets myself. First big engine carb work ever. Came out fine. Books for sale online, plus videos. Looking back, free youtube stuff would have been fine, but book has performance increasing tips.

In theory, my split bore 4 bbl carbs are easier on fuel, because at low speed, only small bores are open, sucking fuel.

That said, either carb would prolly work, and only hard science would prove/disprove mileage claim.
I needed a less expensive hobby, so I bought a boat!
