F32 scrap the boat or repair stringers?

Hi Everyone, I'm new on this forum. I've owned a 1974 Trojan F32 for over 20 years now and have to decide if it's worth replacing the stringers on this boat or should I dismantle it and sell off the parts. It has counter rotating LM318 engines, both run well, one has new heads, cam, lifters and gear set. The other engine had the same treatment two years ago. The velvet drive transmissions work well too. The hull has a soft spot on the top side near the left hatch, the rest of the hull looks ok and the interior shows its age. The swim platform is shot. The upper control cables are very stiff and need replacing too. In other words, it needs a bit of TLC over and above the stringer replacements. I have had estimates of over $12,000.00 for the stringer replacement alone and I doubt the boat is worth that much once repaired so, it's time to part it out! Please let me know if I'm wrong on that one. :?
Thanks

What is the boat worth to you ? Sure you can find F32s less then 12k But How good of shape are they ? Many go for a lot more . You know your boat and with new stringers you would have a boat you know with good stringers .

Thanks for the response Prowlersfish. I agree, these Trojans are good boats, I've had over 20 years of good fun with mine.
I looked around in my area and even a good F32 has a hard time selling for 12K. They don't seem to sell at all!
So, I'm going to part it out. Other than on this forum, any other good places to list the parts for sale?
Thanks.

Yes, that's a shame, it's a good boat, just need someone that has the time to fix it.
I just posted it on Kijiji.ca , only asking $3,500.00 CDN (about $2,500.00 USD)
I doubt it will sell so, come fall, I'll be parting it out. I'll be listing the parts on this forum.

Always hate to see it come to that but the economics for any given individual is usually what dictates. One can look at this a couple of different ways when major repairs are involved; if you think of it as an investment or what you're going to get out of her financially after you sell versus what you've invested in the repairs, then typically 90% of boats of any brand aren't worth it, even some newer vintages. If one looks at it from a non-return/investment perspective, and simply loves the enjoyment they get out of a particular vessel with no thoughts of selling or the return when they do sell, then the expense becomes secondary, the fun and memories are the main motive because you simply can't put a price on such memories, they're priceless.

It looks like you've already made up your mind so I wish you luck. Hopefully it won't come to parting it out and you'll find someone that will see the value of extending her life. You may want to change your ad though, it implies that both engines are counter-rotaters but only one of them is/should be.

I would be interested in parts also, hate to see the boat go that way. What is your aft deck made of , is it teak or fiberglass?? Also, do you have stock rudders? Thanks, Bill Nelson
