New to the Trojan family

Post by Captrichc »

Hey everyone. Wanted to introduce myself. I'm a proud new owner of a 1975 32F sportfish cruiser. Twin 351 merc engines. Needs a little love. But all In all a great boat.

I've been around boats my whole life and run party fishing boats. Cant wait to learn all about this boat with all of your help. 1st thing I need/want to do is get the ship to shore back up and running and looks like I may need to replace the breaker board and transfer switch. Also look into a generator. Any advice on that would be great.

Congrats on the new to you boat . On the ship to shore are you talking radio ?? or shore power ? What issues are you having with the breaker panel ? Beacon marine may have a Panel and switch . If your looking into a generator they came with Onan 6.5 . For replacement I would look at Onan and Kohler

There was no generator installed on this one. Talking about ship to shore power. Sorry I didn't clarify. I haven't really done much continuity testing on it yet. Just trying to plan ahead.

Just ran mine mine back from lindenhurst long island to the bronx. It was an adventure to say the least. Blew the hose on the port motor between the raw water pump and the strainer. Thank God I had brought my Oh SH*T box. I need to clean all the pickups this week. Ran a little warm on the port side. About 170° when the strbd ran at like 140°. Also was only getting 18mph at like 2800 rpm. According to the tachs I couldn't get more RPS then that even with the throttles fully opened.

For a generator on my boat, the original Onan was replaced with a Westerbeke 7.5 Low Profile. It is the quietest generator I've ever heard. There is absolutely no sound outside except a splash of cooling water (my bilge pump is louder) and the inside is a relatively pleasant hum. This might be because it's 3 cylinders, hence smaller exhaust pulses.
Oh.... yes...... it's gasoline.
I'm very pleased with it.

Captrichc - Welcome to the Forum and welcome to that 32 Sport. Great photos. You are really going to enjoy it.

I can confirm that the Westerbeke generator Ron has mentioned is indeed a low decibel number. I was sitting in his salon two weeks ago in Smiths Falls during Ron's cruise from Toronto to Ottawa via Lake Ontario and the Rideau Waterway/Canal system. I can also confirm that Ron's 44 Motor Yacht is a thing of beauty, folks. Those lines are timeless.

Today's marine generators are totally superior in every way to the old original equipment Onans

I recently upgraded to a 3 cylinder 6kW Northern Lights.
