Is the diagram contradicting the instructions? Looks like the thin or jam nut is second nut on shaft in drawing. Maybe I'm misinterpreting these instructions ?

The navy has some guidance on this matter: https://fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ship/nstm/ch075.pdf Se page 75-96 or so.
I needed a less expensive hobby, so I bought a boat!

Thin nut first is sop . But if you walk around a boat yard you will find about 1/3 to 1/2 on wrong . And if you find a loose prop nut 90% of the time its the starboard side . And the nuts ? its a mix of both ways .

And WayWeGo is one of those boats that are not installed correctly. She came to us that way and I decided to leave it until the first time the props come off. So far, no issues, but I do check when out of the water and there are cotter pins installed.
