Electric propulsion hybrid retrofit

Post by tdogg »

Hello all,

I have been thinking of a way to create a hybrid electric system

This would be a test that could lend to full conversion.

Trying to figure out electric motor and connection options.

My thought it to have a chain gear inserted between the transmission and shaft coupler, then use chain drive to turn the shaft when the v-drive is in neutral.

I'll update with pictures of what I'm thinking.

My props are 19" with 16 pitch

Initial goal is to travel 10-12km @ 5-7 knots

Torque is key, need to figure out electric motor type (DC, AC, permanent, brush, brushless) and size, then batteries to achieve distance.

Any and all suggestions and info would be greatly appreciated

Cheers,

Every hybrid boat system I have read up on was on a diesel boat . The reason I bring that up is , the system would have to be safe in gas fume environment . That may not be a easy task .
