How to take infrared temperatures

Post by jasonsmitten »

Hey folks just thought I would ask and see if anybody knows the answer. Where is the best place to take infrared temperature readings on a Chrysler 280hp 400 cubic inch inboard.
Also are there any parts of the engine where I would see really high temps like over 220F

Thanks jaso

Around the temp sender and thermostat are good places . But checking all over where the cooling system flow is a good idea . Other then the exhust manifolds near the ports you should not see 220 .

Thank you
I cant get over how helpful and supportive this forum is.

I believe pieces of an old impeller are stuck inside somewhere. I have changed impellers and am about to embark on checking the thermostat area and any small 90 degree elbow after the impeller.

If you think you might have impeller pieces stuck, it sometimes works to back flush the lines with a hose. That will often get the missing pieces out, but the only way to insure you have them all is to visually inspect.
