does anyone have a suggestion as to how to refinish what seems to be the rubber part of the rub rail?
I think it was originally black

I tried an automotive spray, Trim Black and it looked great for about one season and looks like it wore off. Next, I’m going to lightly scuff it with 220 and brush on a black plastic paint which should hold up better. My other thought has been vinyl tape/pin-striping material which would look great but prep would be key.

vinyl pin striping sounds like it might be worth a try
I need 1 1/4" which I have not been able to find
I might try 1 1/2" and carefully trim it once it is in place
