Hey PK !

So glad to see you back into the swing of things.

Hope your health has improved, as I recall you were down for the count awhile back.

Your project has reached new heights - LOVE YOUR BOW PULPIT !

Be careful regarding the engine HEIGHT when you go to an inline six, as I did.

My installation required DOWNANGLE ZF gear

Mine is close to shooting some photos for the website as well.....

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK !

Hi RWS! Yes, I feel quite well this days. Blood pump is ticking away, as normal. And blood pressure is high, as always.... The Medicine Man (my doc) told me to take care, be careful, and no STRESS! Otherwise I could do as I wish. Like working on my boat, go fishing, but no beer, no booze, nothing that feels fun. Even my queen / wife think I´m crazy....

To the boat: If I gonna use the Merlins, I will have to use down angled gearboxes. The only concern is the height of the engines; 54 cm. Length is 114 cm, and weight is 635 kilo. But the height........ Not sure if they will fit in. On the other side I have two Volvo THAMD 71 engines. Each on 290 Hp, with 1.62:1 gearboxes. Will fit in perfect, but a little old engines. And then I have two BMW 4.2 Liter, making 220 Hp, have 1,51:1 gearboxes. They will fit perfect, but I´ll have to overhaul one engine. The other one have only 70 hours on clock. And I have all harness and instruments. I have also considered a pair of Navistar 7.3L, like the old engines I had some year ago, but they are quite heavy. But nice sound....!! We´ll see.....

Tomorrow I will fix the anchor rolls in the bow pulpit, as well as the search light mount. Will put in some pictures. I have bought more than 500 kilos TEAK wood, real teak wood from a guy in England. Not sure, but thinking about flooring in cockpit area, and maybe little in the saloon. What do you think?

By the way: I will vacumize the fueltank, just to test if it is in good condition. I have fixed all corrosion marks and the fitting as well. And then there is time for cleaning the tank compartment. Pics will come......

The height issue was a problem for me and eliminated the CUMMINS, which incidentally was my first choice, as a potential powerplant

this left me with the Volvo or the Yanmar

The Yanmar was an easy choice

13 years later the only component failure was a starter solenoid, which I switched over to the FORD style on both engines

I went with PLASTEAK on the bow pulpit, engine room hatches and cabin flooring

Replaced the teak swim platform with a new one made of PLASTEAK

Glad to hear you are well and hope to watch your progress here :)

Updates: Today I have finished the bow pulpit, except for painting and oiling the teak. I have entered the anchor roll, made it flush mounted.... It was a bit of tricky work. Tomorrow I will start oiling the wood, gonna use something named Epifanes Varnish. Quite expensive varnish, but will give a nice luster. Pics will come.

The pulpit is heavy. The top of the pupit is made of 7 layers of fiberglass and resin, reinforced with lightweight steel tubes, plus three layers of carbon fiber and resin. The bottom section is 3 layers of glass and resin. And on top the wood glued in epoxy resin. Weight? About 45 kilos. :D Need some weight for the anchor.

PK Great Work! Good for you. Lots of struggles but still persisting. Lucky for us we're not all trying to reply to you in Norwegian. :)

Being the victim of a bankrupt restoration company with your boat in the trustee's grasp would probably stop most of us from continuing on. Many of us could relate somewhat similar stories I think. I had a 454 Mercruiser getting a valve job in a shop that went bankrupt. Never got it back.

We all have to admit that the lines on these Trojan Internationals were/are beautiful. Always worth restoring because they simply don't make them like that anymore. As you already know, all it takes is someone with the time, money, some skills and patience (not common) ..... and you can get to that day when you eventually launch her. That'll be a great day worth a lot of photos.

Today I felt a little "out of order". Heart was running in 155 BpM, when I was laying in bed...... And the pressure was all time high. Called the Medicine Man (actually a nice young woman, with a sailboat....) and she sent me to hospital. Took lot of tests, and doc told me to make ready for an emergency stop, and restart. Tomorrow morning. This is my seventh time with the same "***". But I made a trip to my Trojan this afternoon, just to grind down a little on the pulpit, and then put on the third layer of vernish. If everything goes in the right direction tomorrow I will be able to make the forth as well. Here is the third:

Nice work PK

Hope you won't sacrifice your health for the boat.

It's easy to do, I know.
