cetol application

Post by kallen »

Need advise on applying cetol light over cetol gloss. Refinishing the flybridge ladder steps. They were done with cetol light and then cetol gloss. There are some nicks that need to be addressed so can I sand the gloss and apply cetol light then reapply the cetol gloss.

You really do not want Gloss where your feet come into contact. I would sand off down to bare wood. Re-apply 3 coats of light, natural or orange. I have applied gloss to the facing of the steps only. For appearances purpose only.

I’ve been using Cetol for about ten years and love it. Biggest tip, don’t cut the 24 hour dry time between coats! Been there, done that - ended in a mess. The lower coats will never fully cure. It’s a pain but wait it out.

Also, scuff and topcoat once a year. If you let it go until it fails, there’s no going back and you need to sand it all off.

There is some clear see thru non skid tape that I have used for the shiny ladder steps that worked great.
