Thinking of purchasing a 10M Aft cabin

Post by mprokop87 » Tue Jul 23, 2019 2:24 pm

A buddy of mine has a 1983 International 10M Aft cabin (no bridge) that hes got for sale. I am strongly considering buying it, just wondering a few things. First off, the boat is in great shape structurally. Motors have around 120h on them, its clean but its been sitting. Some of the decals are faded. Needs some minor stuff inside but overall good shape. It does NOT have AC or a genset. It will need a good cleaning from sitting, the electrical for the trim tabs looked at, one carb needs to be rebuilt and the water pumps need to be rebuilt.

What is a fair value that I can make on the boat, it was left open ended and I do not want to insult. Second, how hoard would it be to hook a AC system into the boat? It never came with one, instead it just has the electric heaters. I am more concerned with the main cabin, not the rear.

Is there anything I should look for on the boat to make sure its solid?

At the end of the day, cosmetics are not as important as bones.

SPEND THE MONEY AND GET A LEGITIMATE SURVEY

Suggest you do it in 2 parts:

1-since she s out of the water, do one where she lays.

1-a if the survey so far satisfies you, share it with the owner and come to an agreement on the price PENDING THE OUTCOME OF THE SEATRIAL

2 - you foot the bill for new batteries, carb & install the new impellers - or split it

2-a do the seatrial and either buy or pass on the boat based on that

If this is truly an aft cabin 1983 model, it is likely possible that you MAY FIND that the HVAC ducting system is built into the headliner of the boat

As far as price is concerned, consider this is a 36 year old boat.

If she was 100% tip top shape she would be worth whatever the market would bear.

Considering that she has cosmetic flaws and is not even running, the survey will reveal what is unknown.

Suggest you look at boattrader and craigslist to get some ideas on pricing.

That way you can show him, Look here's what I found...…

Yes, it is truly and aft cabin. I do not have a picture of it unwrapped but it does look like this one for sale.... https://boats-from-usa.com/trojan/33-10 ... bin-179274

I've gone over the boat in depth and cannot find anything that throws a red flag. Its just dirty because it sat 3 or 4 years. It was winterized when it was put away. Good news is that I did have the engines running on the stands but not for long. I do plan to replace the water pumps since that is a cheap fix.
