Stringers - Exposed wood protection from rot

Post by AwayOnBusine$$ »

Someone forgot to unplug drain in the bow when boat was lifter for the winter. When I returned this week the bilge had six inches of water in the bow. Bottom of the cross stringers are exposed for draining. Would like to apply a penetrating product to protect from rot and then coat with an epoxy to prevent further intrusion. Any suggestions.

You could also seal in the wet wood . I would let it be . And maybe leave the floors open for a while .

We have a 64 year old classic wood boat in which we use a product from Minwax it's called Wood Hardener and you should be able to get it at paint stores. Let the wood dry out and then apply. Makes the wood hard again by filling pores of wood. Good stuff.
