Hy,
Thank's a lot for the add !!!
I'm a New owner of an 1978 F26 Express Trojan boat.
Engine is close to 2000hr never rebuilt or oversize. It's a Mercruiser 228 MIE (5 L)

I would like to know if i can replace this engine with a bigger one like a 5.7 ? Or a 350 mpi ? I think about the room for à bigger one...
Thank's if you can help...

I have a 1980 version of your 305 in my F26 — about the same number of hours. I’ve been a little unhappy with top end speed, and have thought maybe the engine was just tired.

At the end of last year’s NY boating season, I went back to tinkering with carb adjustments on the 4bbl Rochester. I thought the spring tension on the secondary doors was set right, but found that the secondaries were apparently running too rich. When I hit on a better setting, the boat performance was much improved. I did not get in much running, unfortunately, before the hook on the end of the spring broke.

The proper tension screw adjustment on mine appears to be 3/4 turn closed from lightly seated. So if you have a similar carb, and similar performance complaints, you may need to adjust the secondary door tension.
